Happy Mother's Day To Me!

LOL, I told myself that I "deserved" to buy myself new plants for Mother's Day. I am a mom and that means I have THE most thankless job in the world. So, based on that pitiful sob story, I bought new plants. LOL

This is Columnea 'Merlot', as labeled by Exotic Angel. The leaves are a very dark green, with red undersides. The new growth has a reddish tint. I've got to google this one to see what color the flowers will be!! BTW, EA tags have a new look and the plants look better than I've ever seen.

And this is a NOID AV. I bought it because the leaves are so large. Is this known as the "standard" AV? All the ones I have are minis. I'd love to find a trailing one someday.

I got an aporocactus in a hanging pot, an easter cactus and a couple Euphorbia decaryi v. spiroticha, and a Crassula "Ivory Tower" for $2 in a 2 in pot. I am also thinking of going to pick up a hoya on Friday, Hoya pubicalyx "Red Buttons" since my first auction on ebay sold for $26 :)

Beautiful plants GH! I too treated myself to a couple of new beauties: Chlorophytum Orchidastrum & Adenium Obesum (Desert Rose). The Chlorophytum, which was a good size, was only a couple of dollars! The Desert Rose was a little more pricey but not too bad. Happy Mother's day to all of us moms!

Wonderful Mother's Day gifts, Becky! I have only one puny eye of Fire Island surviving this year but I do love that one! I have it in morning sun, but have only had it since Fall of last year! It was one of the few to survive being in a pot and is now "in-ground" but it must be fairly hardy or late rising!! Blue Mouse Ears seems to be wildly popular, especially amongst those who love "minis"! I'm sure you won't be disappointed with that one either!! BME would look wonderful in a tufa trough or a dish garden, as I've seen others do! My MD' gift were, "Spilt Milk", "Revolution" and a fern and two heuchera! I'm happy! Never thought I'd like "Spilt Milk", but I think I'm starting to value it as a unique contribution to my collection! Oh, and I also have a gift certificate to one of our local nurseries, that has a 20% off sale coming up! A great day for me all around!! janice

happy Mother's Day from me too. Amanda worked midnight shift last night, so she slept until 3 pm, LOL. I went over and played baseball with the kids, they have their first games of the year this week and "needed the practice". Um...yeah. They got me a basket of pink petunias. Ashley was on her way over when she got called in to work, she's on call today. Elery went home this morning. Soooo.....I mowed the lawn, ran the roto tiller, painted some upstairs trim and bought a chicken dinner at the grocery store! I called my mother and told her Happy Mother's Day yesterday because Elery wanted to do it while he was still here. I have a bottle of wine waiting here for her, I'll see her this week sometime. I'm taking stepmom to the cemetary tomorrow to do clean up before Memorial Day, we have a private family cemetary so there is no caretaker, we each maintain our own family "space". I got her a card and a gift certificate that I'll give her tomorrow. She loves to shop better than anything, so she can buy whatever the heck she wants, within the price range, LOL. Annie

wow! i had no idea they lived so long!! glad all is well. :) i stopped just yesterday to help a turtle across the road. it's a 2-lane, not terribly busy but still, he was right smack in the middle of the road. i picked him up and put him on the side of the road in the direction he was traveling. pretty sure he was on his way to the creek.

GH your plant is terrific..it's so green and lush.
Bet you can't wait till it flowers.
I'd like to get a variegaetd Crown of Thorns, and a large flowered Crown of Thorns, but dh is working on the garage so we probably won't get a chance to go anywhere..Toni

those are both beautiful plants, GH! I have treated myself this month - I got a ZZ plant, a parlor palm and a dracaena marginata 2 weekends ago. My youngest brought home a little pot of german ivy today from preschool as a Mothers Day gift - it's such a nice clipping, doing very well already.
