Tomorrow (Saturday March 3) is the Full Moon.

I've forgotten when iVillage took possession of Garden Web, but once 'abunce' a time Garden Web was owned by a single individual, known to users as Spike.

If you mentioned a competing site, or suggested that someone check out another site or did one of several other things not tolerated, Spike would send you to Disneyland, and you might be banned for a few days or forever. GW was free, some people made donations to keep it going. Then it became the 'pay to play' site. People left, others came in.

A number of other Garden Junk sites splintered off. Some are still going, some disbanded after a while. Then iVillage bought GW, all those ads take care of the cost and it's free, literally free, again.

As to the Full Moon:
It was commonly believed that dancin' nekkid in the light of a Full Moon with a plucked chicken, or some other exotic carryings-on enhance the finding of choice items at thrift stores and on the roadside. Another Nancy once posted her photo dancing with a snake in her teeth, a feat topped topped only by the fun photo of a member's DH wearing appropriate attire for Full Moon dancing.

Not only is Saturday the full moon, I heard on the news there's an Eclipse as well. Should be a good month for JUNK if you follow through!

The snow is so deep here in some spots..(drifted) that I could do my dancing in that drift and no one could see me...But some of my body parts might get frostbite.

It was a balmy night in August 05, I think.

The second full moon of the month was about to appear. This is a not often occurance, and was believed by GJ faithful to be a sign that we would have good junk hunting, IF we celebrated properly.

At my house, DH and I prepared all afternoon. DH's preparation consisted of laying a fire, and laying in a substantial supply of Lite Beer from Miller.

As the moon rose, DH got into the spirit, so to speak. Soon, he was chanting "Junk Junk Junk" as he rattled pebbles in the enameled teapot, swaying to the rythem of the chant.

He just happened to find the grapevine wreath as he was preparing that afternoon, and I thought it was a rather nice touch.

It worked wonders for our junkin'.
We have had tremendous success ever since!

Well remembered with fond thoughts Spike, and Janie's DH dancin round the ritual fire.
The full moon with an eclipse is MAR 3, 07 Along with the good news that there is a Blue Moon ~~~I believe~~~ June 30th 07. With all the great astrological signs so early in the year there should be some fabulous junk just falling into the devoted celebrant's yards and gardens.

I was one who left after ivillage brought Spike out,but it looks like some good changes have been made!

I was never "band" (and you oldies should remember that line! LOL) therefore never saw the WDW page!

I did save that thread, Zooter. It is on my other computer, I will have to hook it up and retrieve it.

I think Spike sold Garden Web in 2005, or maybe the fall of 2004. I think. Maybe. Just an idea, I am not sure. LOL

Garden junk was never a pay forum, but the crafts site
on THS was, and it went 'vacant' until this year. I remember all the moon
stuff and the rain dances etc! LOLOL
We have had a LOT of fun here, and Spike wasn't all that bad. I was one of the volunteer payees, and Spike sent
us bumper stickers and gardenweb calling cards. That's the only sticker I have on my car bumper!
I wish all sites were as easy to use as this one is!

I agree Nona. Some of the other forums require way too much clicking and back clicking for me. This one is so great because you can arrow down and read all the comments at once.

Some of you have been coming here a long long time--no wonder when I first started reading the posts they sounded like you all "knew" each other! You do!

I love this forum and many of the related ones. Such a great group of people. So glad I found all of you--just makes my day! (or should I say "days"?) ;o)

Becky, I remember the photos from your L&L trip very well. I always wished I'd copied them so I could look at them over and over.

It's about time for people to start painting their junk, isn't it? Seems like the more colorful pretties emerged when the weather warmed.

I know I've been here longer than 2001...because I can remember when everyone was afraid of what was going to happen midnight 2000.

Remember they were stashing water and food and buying heaters and fuel to heat their homes with.

I figured I'd just have to burn the dinning room table if it really happened.

Been gone for several years (about three thanks to my son, who is about three LOL). Wow do I ever remember Spike! Got sent to Disney once, but forgiven quickly once I promised to mind P's & Q's. Was more than surprised to see pop ups happening here but hey that's progress.

OMG Janie, I am ROFLMAO - that is way toooooo funny! I've not even been with GJ a full year now but I've heard the stories of this Spike character and sure am glad he's not in charge anymore. That would definitely take all the fun out of this forum.

Spike was not bad-he just wanted things in the right places, and if you didn't abide by the rules, he sent you to disney! LOL
There were NO ads when he was in charge. He only started the pay channels because Garden Web got so big he couldn't afford it all by himself. Thanks to him, GardenWeb is the great forum that it is today. The design was all his, and it has worked great for years, and is one of the easiest to read. A lot of folks quit when he started the pay forums, and again when he left, because they didn't want it to change, and got upset because of some of the ads, among other things. I was new to the computer when I found
GW, and it was the easiest of all the forums that I tried.I paid voluntarily, when he first asked for it, and I am glad that I did....I was upset when he sold, but so far so good-the only really bad thing is the ads.

I don't get any of the ads either.

We were talking about the ads on the Kitchen Table not too long ago...and it seems that the ones who used to pay (I was a payer too) don't get the ads...

It used to be if you paid you didn't get the ads...wondering if we were marked somehow and it is still there.??

I remember Spike... I don't think he would have allowed Hot Topics, though. All those people would be in Disneyland!

I came in when Just Pam first learned of her illness. I think about her a lot. Hardley knew her at all, but the family atmosphere shone through during that time and it's what kept me here. This forum is family, and I always appreciate the love that abounds on Garden Junk.

I found GJ in about '04 or so.
I had a different user name then....desiderata....
and I had the pictures of Little and Lewis' yard.

they don't even live there, any longer.
they sold the property and got very busy, with a new
venture, in another country.

I surely do remember that photo of the DH, for the ceremony, for junk...lol

I've had neighbors turn me in, for all the junk in my yard...different location then...
went to court and lost.

now, I'm in my own yard, own the house and don't like to
be told what I should or shouldn't have in my yard.
I defend it to the max!
got a visitor from the county, this week, in fact.
he loved my small 'nursery' area...hundreds of plants..
but said there's a lot of junk, otherwise.
I said 'point to one thing at a time"
he did...and I had an idea for each...

no citation, no reprimand and it this time, no problem.
till my 'pristine' neighbor gets a hair up his arse, again.
