Check with your state's Extension Service. Each county should have it's own Cooperative Extension Office which provides free publications and information for the asking. They will have valuable vegetable/gardening tables available specifically for your area determined by universities and horticultural research scientists who have collected data from growing those crops in your state. Your tax dollars are already paying for this service so you may as well get some use out of it. You'll have a whole list of things for a fall planting. I just today transplanted some tiny Great White tomatoes. I seeded some Ruby Queen corn, and some Golden zucchinis, so I sure hope its not too late!! We have crazy weather here, there was no way to start anything from seed even as late as first week in May, we were having 40 degree nights. I know lots of folks replanted squash, beans etc, that they lost from rain and cold in our area. I had the garden plowed and tilled WAY too early (April) so now it is overgrown with johnson grass and weeds, so its all I can do to clear out and plant a small patch each day! I have Silver queens that are sprouting and growing well, kandy Korn a foot or more high, so I thought i would get a 3rd flavor going! next week I seeding some Sugar Dots too. It may be late, but Im planting anyways! I see some corn and other plants here that are waist high, and others that are tiny, so lots of people planted late, so I think its okay to start whenever you can, just protect your plants later if it gets cold quick in your area, I know we wont have cold until at least Oct.

Our Home Depot continues to have out of season veggies and nothing in-season. Lots of warm season stuff on the shelves right now, like tomatoes, cucumbers and squash. Didn't see much in the way of cool season veggies, maybe a few brassicas. I start almost all my cool season veggies by direct starts so usually just do a cursory glance for things like mints, which they had none of. Of course, there were all sorts of basils, which have about three more weeks before it gets too cold.

Hi, Alberta - we have crazy heat here, but I love it, even though I can't stay out in it in the middle of the day more than 20 minutes. We could use some rain at this point, but again, I love the way it rains during part of the day (when it rains) and then clears up - not like my time in MA, where we could get walled in by 5 or 6 days of steady rain at a time. Even though the heat is tough on the plants (and the electric bill from running AC), I'd rather have 5 straight days of sun. Tiffy, thanks - I have a love/hate relationship with that forum - it's funny as all get-out much of the time, but some folks are just too technical about their gardening approach for me. In all fairness, they probably have a lot better success with their gardens, but hack gardening is all the fun for me. I get a kick out of "discovering" something that works, and then realizing that those in the know could say "duh, we could have told you that before you had all those failures". Oh well! :)
