tassels and silks not on same timetable- save pollen?

My tassels are up and have the little "flags" coming off of them, I'm thinking they are ready to pollinate. My silks are no more than an inch showing in the juncture of stalk and leaf and I see no actual silks yet. The online source said self pollination is usually not possible because the male and female develop at different times. Is this my problem? since I only planted the one plant I will not get corn? I do have three plants coming out of one pot and the tassels are developing at different times, one right now is probably a week away from the others. I'm still hoping I have a chance to pollinate silks. can I save pollen from my tassels to pollinate the silks when they are ready? Mark?
