I had several 'Siamese' squash form on plants from a Ferry Morse packet of yellow straightneck squash. This happened a few years in a row. I don't recall it every happening from other seed packets. Perhaps it was from some type of unintended cross. I ran out of those seeds so I'm planting from a new packet this year from another source.

Looks like, so far so good! Just don't look as pretty as they used to look, but neither did they look pretty w/ the powdery mildew on the older top leaves. I also brought in 4 large sized zukes! I only have 2 zuke plants, total! I'm thinking of taking them all the way down pretty soon, though. Just was waiting for it to cool down some and for the rains to go thru so it would be eaier to pull them out. I want to put in some fall stuff in their place!

Old leaves die, that's normal. As long as the growing tips are vigorous and healthy you have nothing to worry about. Since the plants have orange pumpkins on them don't be surprised if their growth slows down. Also if the pumpkins are ripe you don't have to wait until October to pick them.

gardenall, For slugs, try a iron phosphate product around the plants you want to protect. This is sometimes called "Sluggo" or "Escar-go". (Another option I've read about, but never tried is DUCKS. Ducks according to what I've read, love to eat slugs, and won't scratch like chickens.) I used it early this season (while my lettuce was very small) and had very good success, fewer slugs by far than in previous years. I also have a large bird population, that enjoys being in my garden. (I chase them off before my seeds come up, but let them hang out after that to help control the slug/insect population.)
