What to do with Peace lily flowers?

I have a very nice peace lily from my mom's funeral a few years ago. This is the first year since then that it has bloomed. I notice that the flowers have a thingie growing in it (much like a pod or something). It is now "shedding" all over the plant. At first, I thought it was a powdery fungus and freaked!

Do I let them run their course, or do I cut the flowers off? I've searched this forum and couldn't find any advice.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi! I have a peace lilly that is constantly flowering. It shoots 2 flowers at the same time & has done this about every 3 to 4 months continually. Even this winter! This is my first peace lilly plant, i've had it just over a year now, & i really don't know the proper way to care for it. I just give it water when the leaves start to droop, and a light shot of fertilizer once a month.
The stamen i think its called is that thing in the middle of the flower, used for pollenating? I just leave mine alone till the stem and all has turned brown and dried up then i gently pull it out. Its not a pretty sight, but once its really started to fade the leaves start to hide it.
I'm no expert by any means, but i figure i'll just leave it be and my plant seems to be happy with that.

Leaving dead ones on the plant indefinitely could maybe encourage mold or rot, but beyond that, I don't think the plants much care what you do with the flowers.

Mine take more than a week to fully open, maybe more. When I notice the "white" swollen spot in the foliage, I keep an eye on it and if I remember right, it does take some time for them to fully open. As for staying small??? I'm not sure. Mine do turn green after they have been open for a long time (say several weeks) and they do turn brown and finally die. To get mine to flower, I went against the common info and sat it in front of a west facing window where it gets 4-5 hours of full, direct sunlight everyday. I carry it to the tub every 10-15 days for a good soaking. It blooms about 4 times a year for me. heres a pic.

thanks for the link it is definitely Spanish moss on top of the soil i think that i will be removing it just because it does get in the way of when i am trying to check the soil for moisture. it does add a little bit for decorative purposes but i think its just a pain it seems to just fall out and gets all over the place. when should i water the plant when the top of the soil is starting to get a bit dry that is what i have heard? but i also wonder why this plant can be over watered because i have seen when people use them with beta fish bowls and then it seems that the whole roots are soaked in water the whole time.

Professional interior landscapers cut off or pinch out the center part that has the white pollen on it as soon as the flower is open enough so it doesn't make a mess. We leave the outer white "petal" looking part.

Thanks for the input. I know about cutting the stamen from other lilies, as they can stain, but didn't even think about this plant. I think I will just snip them out to avoid the mess.

Hi

I have two big beautiful ones. They flower often usually two or three per plant. I just let them live until they brown and wither enough for me to pull them out without a struggle. I read on here that as long as they are happy they will grow flowers. So I take my constant blooming as a good sign. It is also growning lots of new leaves! I don't mind the powedery stuff I just wipe it off if I feel like it.

I have three smaller ones and they had flowers on them too but I cut them off. ( that was before I found this site) Someone told me it was better for them since they take alot out of the plant. I wish I hadn't now since they have never flowered again.
