Trying to find ungrafted fruit trees/seeds
Comments (5)You can save the seeds from the apples you buy at the market, which will usually sprout just fine. One of my trees was grown by me from a granny smith apple seed. The tree produces a sweet yellow apple similar to a golden delicious. You never know what you might get when using seeds, and the time they take to bear can be unbearable. But it will be your unique tree....See Morepersimmon from seed
Comments (1)Usually persimmons are either male or female; that is they produce either female flowers only or male flowers only although some may produce both and some occasionally produce flowers of the opposite type. If the plant ends up with female flowers it will likely produce fruit with or without a pollinizer. The fruit will certainly be edible but will very likely be an astringent type like Hachiya even if it came from the Fuyu....See MoreNeed help for one-year-old persimmon trees
Comments (3)Thanks creekweb, So you say the pot and the medium (I assume it's soil in this case; sorry I'm a gardening novice) are possibilities. The pot that I re-potted the tree into is deeper and wider than the previous one, then again I have no expertise, so this might be upsetting the tree for some reason. Also the re-potting was long overdue when I did it, and the root was so dense at the bottom of the prev pot (I found the bottom of the old (smaller) pot was literally 'saturated' with the root). As for the soil, I didn't replace the whole; I filled the new pot half way up with the same soil, and placed the tree on top of it without removing the old soil around the root, and filled the gaps with the new (but same) soil. I don't know if this was the right thing to do or not. Unfortunately I don't have a place on the ground to plant the tree. I could perhaps find a spot if I rigorously negotiate with neighbors (I live in a small apartment)....See MoreAmagaki Persimmon
