Carpenter ants in Apple tree

Hello everyone -

I have a small fruit tree farm with everything from Macs & golden delicious to berries of all kinds. I have noticed a serious problem with an older tree (40-50 years) on the farm with a cavity on the front of it. Carpenter ants have been going into the cavity and boring out small holes into all the outer healthy branches. I have used sprays, dusts and even put a band of a substance called tanglefoot on a band wrapped around the trunk to stop the pests from climbing. They still make it through! Any suggestions would be great as this tree is a prize and produces a great harvest!

Thanks
