Avocado transplant question:
Comments (19)My Little Cado (Dwarf Haas) planted in the ground is still living. It is completely under 50% shade cloth. I planted it against a rock wall with hay bales on the other sides to protect the lower trunk from the heat and wind. It is alive and putting on new growth but it's growth rate is something less than spectacular. Still a thin and spindly looking little tree. I had a volunteer fig tree come up a foot or so from it. I'm going to let that little fig tree remain, as I fully expect the avacado tree to die this year. If anybody reading this has had success with an in ground or potted avacado tree here in Arizona (or south eastern California), I'd sure like to hear about it. Dave...See MoreSummer Avocado Variety
Comments (14)Weird, I thought I replied to this topic, but apparently not. I am also looking to diversify my avocado collection via grafting. Ideal time for grafting avos is just after last frost, which is first week in March up here in Sunland/Tujunga, foothills area of Los Angeles. So that's coming up in a couple of weeks. I currently have 3 avow. I have a big, very productive and healthy haas. The other one is in it's second year of production on my sister's property. I think it's another Haas, but not certain. Lastly, I have a little seedling from a Reed pit, that is about 1yr old in a container. I call it a 'Reedling' I am planning on grafting a bit of the the reedling onto my big haas, to see if I can get it to fruiting quicker that way. I am also looking to diversify and would love to obtain some buds or wood from established trees of other cultivars. I'm particularly interested in the following: Sharwil Carmen-Haas (sounds wonderful!) Lamb Haas Reed Fuerte Bacon Pinkerton Green Gold But I'm totally open to receiving material from any cultivar other than haas, as long as it's from fruiting wood. Don't have much to trade as far as avocados go, just the haas and reedling. But I have a bunch of other interesting stuff for trade. Happy to drive to get what I am looking for....See More5 yr old avocado tree grown from seed
Comments (54)I have had fruit from 4/11 of my avocado varieties. They will all flower in the season as mine are grafted. Not all hold fruit if they are to young and drop them. But that is not true for everyone. There are many factors that play into a tree holding fruit set including weather, temperature, pollination etc....... I've known people who have had 2-3 year old trees that were grafted produce fruit and hold on the tree. I'm one of them who did so in containers with a Mexicola and Wurtz. You can see them in the Avocado forum under container trees. My Wurtz ( Little Cado ) has 30 plus fruit on it this year and is in a 24inch box and my Mexicola is in a raised bed now and I'm expecting it to fruit this year and several other trees that are now in the ground. I will update the group this summer. I'm expecting fruit from my Fuerte, Pinkerton, Stewart, Bacon, Mexicola and Wurtz. My other trees are still to young....See MoreAvocado Forum!!!
Comments (147)Hello, dear avocado lovers. My indoor avocado tree is 1.5 year old and up till now was doing great. Recently we moved to new flat and then problems started. First of all, its leaves became "sad", looking downside. Second, almost all old leaves have a brown tip. At last, it started to loose its old leaves. Could you help me to find what has happened with my avocado tree? Some info regarding its environment - germinated from a seed in a glass of water, whole life has been growing in a pot without hole. Based in Lithuania, so it almost does not get direct sun light, but it was not a problem at least till now. Could the problems be caused by floor heating? Thank you in advance.
