I have quite a few epis. I grow them in pots hanging under a lemon tree. Seems the ones facing south get a few more branches that turn brown and die, I don't know the cause, but I prune the dead growth. This has never affected the entire plant and it doesn't seem related to age, new growth, old growth, occasionally one or two die. Mine came originally from a friend that bought them at San Diego Wild Animal Park and these are all about ten years old. One, in particular has 150/200 blooms every spring, and it became so large, the tree could not support it any more and I put the pot in a bird bath, full sun. This is the one that seems to develop the holes, which I prune severely. Other than that, (I could be all wet), but seems that it is something I need to live with? Any Epi that gives 200 butter yellow blooms is a healthy plant.

If its on the plant or on the soil its most likely mold/fungus. With these type of cacti you have let the soil dry out a bit and let them sort of go dormant in a cool spot. Only water them enough to keep them alive. Also make sure they get plenty of air movement. One thing it also might be is mealybugs(little cotton ball lookin buggers) and most likely you can take care of them with rubbing alchohol on the stems

Rigo74,I'v never used super bloom, does it really work that good? I'v heard it was good but I'm not into trying new thing,I feel if you find some thing that works for you then stick with it.I really don't go by the book and I upset some people with the way I do things but it works for me The plants were a gift for the guy that had them, he 85 and was moving into a small apt. and couldn't take them, he said he got them when they were small and set in a north window for years, the smaller one was bigger but it was knocked over and lost most of the top half. he did save them for cuttings he still has them.that was was 6 years ago I all so grow epies 50 diff.hybrids, hoyas, disocactus,hylocereus (dragon fruit) rhipsalis,lepismlum (pussy willow cactus)selenicereus 4 diff hybrids,holiday cactus 5 named hybrids 3 unknowns,aporophyllum edna belany, Schneideriana maroon Huernia starfish plant (carrion plants)and lots of unknows epies that were givin to me or I pick them up cheap at tag sales. I would be happy with a cutting or rooted plant. I have other epiphyllums to trade, most are fushia, pink, or purple but I've only identified a few. I can make trades of one or a dozen (preferred). Write back if you can trade with me.
