Best Grape Varieties For SoCAL

Hi, would love recommendations for a couple of grape varieties that will do well in zone 9/10. Looking for sweet tasting grapes mainly to be eaten right off the vine! And possible to make jam/jelly with if prolific! :-) Thanks!

What type of soil do they need, acidic/alkaline? Thanks so much!

Grapes do fine in alkaline soil. No special needs in that area.

My favorite seedless table grapes are Summer Royal, Princess, and Crimson Seedless. Flame is also good. These need quite a bit of heat so won't work near the coast. They also aren't really suited to making preserves.

Summer Royal is hard to find but is the best grape I've ever eaten. It's very sweet and has high flavor.

I have Flame and they are great, I also have reliance which is good. Just be patient grapes take a couple of years to really produce a crop. I am in Simi Valley Ca, I think it is 9, heat is good for grapes.

Our winters are not very tough, but it ought to do good as far north as Virginia I am pretty sure. We only get down to about 14 degrees F most winters here, so hardiness is not put to much test..

Here is my experience I planted Black Nesbitt and black loonis. They are male and Female so no problem with Pollination. They are not seedless. The research found out that seeds of Muscadine varieties which I have has a lot of health benefits and prevents cancer. It is funny the Muscadine Farmers make more money from selling Grape seeds to drug companies than from selling grapes. They love water I water them and we have lots of rain but our soil is Sandy the water dries quick. The Vines are still young we got about 11 punches from both Vines that what we were able to save from the wasps. The grapes are sweet and all my family loved it.

Rolling River Nursery in Northern Cal. has a number of uncommon grapes available via mail order. A number of the muscats are on backorder currently but they have a waitlist. They ship fast and prices are good. Local nurseries just don't have the ability to keep large numbers of varieties around the way mail order nurseries do. What's your zone and where in SoCal are you? Apricots thriiiiiive here. In my small backyard, I have 4 nectarines, 4 peaches, 3 apricots, 3 plums, 8 interspecifics, 2 cherries, 6 apples, (30 deciduous); 3 avocados, 1 mango, 2 guavas, 2 loquats (8 subtropicals); 10 berries and a kiwi vine. In the front yard I have 13 citrus. I'm in zone 10 -- northeast Los Angeles. My co-planted gold-kist apricot & flavor delight aprium grow amazingly well together and should cross-pollinate. I think they are a perfect pair here. Here is a good website for tree info. You can adjust it for your zone and chill hours from the way I've calibrated it. Deciduous Trees that grow in Zone 10 with a minimum chill requirement of 400 hours (some fewer) And, of course, it does not include all of the great sub-tropicals and citrus you can grow here, especially against a warm south or west-facing wall. If I were to get a cherimoya, I'd look for El Bumpo, if I were to get a banana, I'd get goldfinger.

flame, pearlette, and black beauty are my 3. I love them all but since they are the only 3 I have, can't say for sure that there aren't better ones out the.
There is nothing like the grapes that you let get ripe, really ripe, not like the stuff in the stores. wow they are good.
