Best variety of seedless grape?

I live in zone 7a according to the new 2012 map, and want to try my luck with grapes. What would be a good variety of seedless grape?

Grapes do fine in alkaline soil. No special needs in that area. My favorite seedless table grapes are Summer Royal, Princess, and Crimson Seedless. Flame is also good. These need quite a bit of heat so won't work near the coast. They also aren't really suited to making preserves. Summer Royal is hard to find but is the best grape I've ever eaten. It's very sweet and has high flavor.

I'm interested in planting table grapes. This will be my first time. I am trying to choose the best variety for my situation. I'm looking for a seedless variety, resistant to powdery mildew, I would prefer red grapes, purple would be my second choice(for the health benefits). I would prefer a type with more of a sweet, less of a spicy flavor. I would like a variety which is vigorous. Of course we get plenty of rain here for most of the year. The location has full sun but our soil has too much clay although I will attempt to improve it before planting. I would greatly appreciate any advice on making the best selection. Thanks so much!Jen

Thanks for all the comments guys. Great info and feedback all around. Regarding Gold Nugget, I have one that has been in ground for about 6 years from a 5 gallon nursery tree, trifoliate rootstock. It is only 6ft tall with 6ft width. Just another data point. Mine is from Durling nursery. Where did you get yours kentc? Questions for all you Bay Area growers: Do you have any problems with freezing? What varieties do you recommend for your climate, especially for container growing?

Our winters are not very tough, but it ought to do good as far north as Virginia I am pretty sure. We only get down to about 14 degrees F most winters here, so hardiness is not put to much test..

Quite a bit south of Chicago.

The only way to find out for sure is to plant one there. One of the parents of this hybrid (ES 5-17). came from Elmer Swenson, of Osceola Wisconsin, and I know he got subzero winter cold.
