Itilton, I don't need to bother checking galls because I'm going to be putting down those 2 or 3 sprays anyway and the development of the galls probably coincide with the weather conditions that determine the timing of my sprays for PC and scab. This has worked on so many sites (over 100)- so many seasons (over 20, but used to be fewer sites), I think it's completely reliable. On the first spray in a 3-spray program I'm putting down oil anyway so no additional sprays are needed to control CAR. It is not just about when innoculant is there, it is just as much about susceptibility. For most varieties you need only protect the fruit and leaves will be adequately protected from this anyway(Immunox has serious kickback against CAR). There is not fruit until petal fall. Explain this to your arborist and tell us what he says.

If the galls haven't yet all sporulated it isn't too late. The galls in my area are pretty much done but there may be some left to go so scouting continues during rainy periods. IMO, CAR control is very localized. If the galls aren't erupting within 2 miles of your trees there is a near zero chance of getting infections, 5 miles away a thunderstorm line may be enough to get the galls popping. As far as when leaves are most susceptible to infection, I read in some literature it is when they are about 4-6 days old. Myclobutanil, the A.I. in Immunox, Nova and Eagle 20EW fungicides is very effective against CAR. Time to eat, gotta go, Michael

Thanks for the responses. How toxic is Immunox/myclobutanil? The warnings of course make it sound horrible and our water comes from a well not far off. Unfortunately, there will be no getting rid of the cedars, for family reasons. And while the area around the trees is mowed and underneath is kept mulched and weeded, the rest of the field (and the surrounding fields) are basically tall weedy grass that gets mowed once a year. That's not going anywhere either unless someone gives me a brush hog and a tractor to pull it with. I guess the best bet moving forward is to try to spray at the right time(s) in the future. I'll look into the suggested sprays for this year, though. Randy - My William's Pride isn't bearing yet (just put it in this year). I've had them from farm stands though and thought they were good enough to try planting. I don't have any tasting notes or anything, though :) Anyway, I hope they're good. Thanks again. Sam

Peppi, thank you so much for those pictures, I didn't even think of getting one of the pig roasting. We had rolls and pork, au gratin potatoes, potato salad, macaroni salad, home canned green beans, sauerkraut and polish sausage, a big pan of italian sausage. Appetizers were the habanero cheesecake, cranberry cheesecake, 7 layer dip, cheese dip, tortilla chips, fresh veggie trays and some potato chips for those hard core chip lovers. Desserts were apple pie, blueberry cheesecake, raspberry coconut bars, chocolate chip cookies, lemon shortbread, peanut butter cookies, peanut butter and chocolate fudge and the cakes. Mother also brought some cupcakes. The cakes, as I've mentioned, were LindaC's carrot cake, Colleen's chocolate cake, and a strawberry chiffon which kept bleeding strawberry filling through the buttercream. The groom's cake was Beth's lemon cake. Amanda carried the handkerchief that SharonCB sent me as her "something borrowed", I have to remember to get that back for Ashley's wedding. I carried it in my wedding to Elery too, it's kind of becoming a family tradition, and it's my way of keeping all my CF friends there with me. Peppi and Sherry were sure there with me when I needed them, what great friends. And Peppi didn't tell you that she informed Ashley that Kevin has a nice butt. Ahem.
