another what is this plant question

Here's a pic.

The hotel where I work threw out the original plant, which was a couple feet tall. It still had some life in it so I clipped off some of the live parts and rooted them, but I don't know the name. It reminds me of a maranta of some sort. The leaves don't fold up like a maranta, but they do fold down a little at night. What is it?

I don't know a lot about plants, but I would assume it's in the family of the Peace Lily. The base of the plant looks very much the same. Maybe you could search for Peace Lily on google or something & find pics of different kinds. Hope this helps!

The shape and the way the leaves are held look alot like a calathea, but the markings are something unfamiliar to me

Josh - this isn't completely related, but... I haven't a clue why, but I've yet to get an AV to thrive in an mix with bark. I've tried pine, fir, orchid mixes - you name it. They all fail. I know other people use them with AVs (though I do hear a lot of people say they didn't get them to work), so it is possible. pH is potential issue, I suppose. I've made more mixes than you'd think possible, with bark from several sources. I've used about 100 young plants over the winter. I lost several. Of those that lived but were affected the worst, they have taken 4-6 months to recover. A few, that were taken out quickly, rebounded quickly. Others, in a typicaly peat mix, are huge already. In every case, the longer they were in it, the worse they were affected. Given I've got hippiastrum, pothos, philodendron, tomatoes, and many more things in a bark based mix and all are very happy, it makes no sense to me. I'm using all the same products, same fert, same water, etc. In terms of the AVs, it;s ok if I have a bit of bark in there - but a 1-1-1 or a 5-1-1 is completely out. If you get a chance, please let me know if you have any difficulties over time with the other...there must be an explanation.

So it is. I don't remember the others being like that the first year, more like rosettes but flattish. I was poking around there today and felt the leaves. They are gently prickly kind of like rudbeckia. Anyway, there was a poor, stunted Candy Mountain Foxglove, grew some a couple years ago but don't remember putting a plant there, probably did then got overshadowed and crowded by the CB's. Thanks! I'll leave it be. I really like the way they are blooming this year.

I know I've had portulaca come up in very tight spots between pavers on my patio and they have thrived and flowered. They would "spill" over the basket too alittle, which might look nice.

The shipping is not as much if you're ordering a lot of plants. But, one or two will cost you. That said, a lot of companies, like Lazy S's Farm (which I highly recommend) has shipping rates that are now out the gazoo! MON is much cheaper than they are, as is Woodlanders. They usually ship bare root plants and that's probably why their rates are lower. I believe someone here on the forum orders from Missouri Wildflowers and recommends them as well. I have not personally ordered from them. Shipping has gone up this last year due to the cost of gas, which filters down to everything else. Postage has also increased, as I'm sure Fed Ex and UPS have accordingly. It's almost impossible to afford ordering from online nurseries anymore. Susan

That looks like the Ctenanthe Lubbersiana to me, a plant from the Maranta gang.

Make sure this plant gets oodles of humidity, which Marantas (demand) enjoy.

Some kind of Ctenanthe is my guess, with C. lubbersiana or C. oppenheimiana being the two I see mentioned most often. The description of C. lubbersiana here matches your plant more closely than the one for C. oppenheimiana, but I'd google both plants and see what comes up.

If it's not a Ctenanthe, then it's probably still something in the Marantaceae -- Calathea, Maranta, or Stromanthe.

Yup, looks like C. lubbersiana to me too. I had a feeling it was a part of the maranta group by the way it looked. It sits in a west facing kitchen window where it should get enough humidity from the sink. So far it seems to enjoy it there. Can't wait to see it get more full and bushier. But since it does get about 2 ft. tall, in the future it'll have to have a new place in the house. Thanks for your help everyone!
