it is likely due to poor root health so it cannot uptake the water you are providing. What kind of potting media do you have it in? Aloes can withstand a wetter mix than most succulents but they are still prone to rot just like the others.

Help. I've seen a few leaves of my plant start to droop. I've had the plant for 5 months now. It was in the finished basement with lower light until recently. It is now a warmer room with more light. I water it 1x a month with liquid fertilizer. Not sure if this is due to lack of light or temperature change. Please advise.

Hi Camy. Succulent's roots don't like sitting in soggy soil. They need to dry out inbetween waterings. To check if it's wet or dry I use a wooden/bamboo skewer and slide it to the bottom of the pot, leave it for a few minutes then pull it out. If it's wet and has bits of wet/damp earth sticking to it then it doesn't need watering. And because Aloe vera have lots of water stored in their leaves they can go for weeks after that with no water. They also need fast draining pot and potting mix. And they get oxygen from watering when it goes through the mix and out the bottom easily. If you think about it, these plants in their natural habitat live in hot, dry countries with full sun all day. During droughts their fat juicy leaves keep them alive. They also don't generally live in areas that have rich organic, water retaining soil full of nutrients. So we need to mimic those conditions as much as we can. If I was in your situation... 1. Because it's still unhappy, I would repot again into a better mix. 2. I would use a mix of roughly 40% cactus and succulent potting mix and 60% course perlite. Rinse the perlite first through a kitchen sieve to get rid of the dust and tiny bits. Make sure you wash off what you can of the previous soil. 3. While your doing that, check the roots for any rot or anything that worries you. If there is any black squishy roots, get back to us with some clear close up photos before potting. Especially of how close it is to the stem. 4. If that's all good give the roots a few hours to dry off then pot it in it's new mix. The roots will need a few days to heal before watering. 5. I'd get rid of the outside pot, it keeps the moisture in the bottom of the mix for longer. After watering let it drain for as long as possible, then if needed, i'd use a terra cotta saucer to sit the plant pot on as it keeps the moisture away from the pot. I think I've covered all the steps. If I think of anything else, I'll edit the post at the bottom and add an asterix so you know. Come in with quetions as often as you'd like. It's all a bit daunting and messes with the brain cells lol :-)
