Can anyone ID this plant?

I had this plant/tree given to me by a friend who got it from a friend who got it from a friend .....

Was wondering if anyone could tell me what it is?

Hi FTG,

It's called Aglaonema, more commonly known as Chinese Evergreen. It's a medium to lower light plant, takes medium water.

Looks fine now, but if that window gets sunny I'd back it away from there, this plant does not want direct light (but maybe you put it there just to take the pic).

Thank you soooo much. Have had it in front of that window for 6mths, wanted to move it away but wasn't sure if I could. Now I can to make room for others!!!
probably only survived cause its only moring sun in that window.

Looks like something that would require bright light. Unless it came as part of an assortment there would also be an employee involved that ordered it off a list, would know what the supplier was calling it. Or if there is an independent garden center in your area that displays indoor plants somebody there might have a name for it. They'll be used to people bringing in plants they have bought elsewhere and asking for help with them, it comes with the territory.

Did you ask permission to take a cutting from the restaurant owner or manager? If too many people feel the inclination to swipe a cutting or two, that plant won't be beautiful very long, will it? It's personal property. Simple little actions like that are the reason why businesses don't feel like they can have such displays in their public areas.

Hi Carol23_gw and Floral_uk . Thanks for taking the time to id my plant . With both suggestions I did a google search and at first I thought neither were the correct answer . Ulmaria seemed way too tall to fit the plant I grow here and Palmata seemed the bloom was pink and mine is not. However , upon further research I believe Floral_uk that you are correct . It is a palmata but Palmata ' Elegans' which is a white bloom. YAY ! I finally have an id on this plant. I have been growing for some 6 or 7 years. Meadowsweet ........who kniew ?

Sure, Angel anytime, that IS (inpart) what we're here for. I guess you're right abt the morning sun, doesn't seem any worse for it.

Should this be useful down the road, this plant also roots readily in water (should you care to make more of it some day). Otherwise, it's a pretty easy, lo-maintenance & carefree plant. Enjoy!!
