Aglaonema is easy to grow and fairly tough. Based on the height you mentioned it could be a Dieffenbachia too. You can root in water but you should change the water and clean the vase when it starts to get cloudy (lots of pathogens can flourish in standing water - probably brought in by the plant itself). Easy to grow by seed too (when it ever sets seed). I agree with rhizo_1 too, don't pinch or dig into a pot without the owner's permission - it is a form of theft. Even seed gathering can be a no-no (depends on the garden/park/public venue) but I see that as less threatening because the seed will eventually fall off and never germinate and grow. Well I called the florist that it came from, and she said it was an arabica coffee plant. Thanks though, it does look very similiar to an ardisia!
