I thought I would take the liberty of trying to help you post pictures directly on GW. It is really fun to be able to post pictures on GW and I hate to see you not be able to do it. I will be working with the picture "She's so fuzzy".

First go in to your picture album and click on "She's so fuzzy". When you get the larger picture display to a right-click on the picture and you'll see a new window. Go all the way down to the bottom and click on "properties". This should bring up a gray window. In that window you should see address or URL and to the left of that will be an address starting with http://. It will probably be a couple of lines. Highlight (a quick way to do it is to put cursor on the line and click three times) and copy the http:// line(s).

You should have something that looks like the following of She's so funny url

Next go to GW and write your message as you would any other thread entry. When you want a picture to display just copy the img line and paste it.

Since you are now using photobucket there is a much quicker way to get an html img line. Photobucket constructs HTML for people to use images. It produces three different kinds depending on what kind of message board you are going to post the image on. For GW one needs to use the tag line.

I have made a picture of how a picture is displayed in photobucket. Under the picture you can see that there are three lines: url, tag and img. It is the tag line that one needs to use for GW. Simply click on the little window next to tag to highlight it and then copy the highlighted line. Now you can paste that line anywhere in the message window on GW. It is really simple.

Larry, this thread is a great idea! There is nothing quite like animals to remind us of all that is good and happy (for the most part) and bring a smile to our faces. I love seeing everbody's animal families. My daugter says that we spoil our animals by allowing them on the couch, bed, etc.. This has bugged me many times,,, nice to know that we are not alone, hehe!

Wow, you sure do have quite a variety of pets! You have some nice-looking horses. I have always wondered how adopting a wild horse works. Could you explain that to me?

I think it is always noble to adopt a pet from an agency. All of my cats have come from some sort of Humane Society except for one that was destined for the pound. My cats were never feral but two different cats that I had had two different times in my life were the same as Luna. These cats would hide whenever company would come over and people didn't even know that I had them. Except one cat's curiosity would get the better of her after around four hours. She would slowly come out and see what was going on. The other cat that I am talking about is now finally starting to stay when company comes over. She has found out that everybody wants to pet her when they show up.

I think that is so cool that you used to raise parrots. Over 200 sounds like a lot of parrots. How many babies did you have to hand feed at any given time? I've always wanted to get a bird but have been leery because of my cats. I know that a parrot could pretty much defend itself but parrots need a lot of attention and I'm not sure that I could give one enough. A parakeet would be much more my speed. I'm afraid though that my cats would give one a rough time.

Question: Are those tillandsia in Winston's aquarium?

Ah Foxy that is a great picture. The bed always proves to be a great place for a romp (talking cats at the moment, lol)! Actually my daughter would appreciate it as she spoils her cat at least as much as we spoil ours, though she would not admit it. Jasper on the couch or bed,,,,,conjures some very interesting visuals! lol.....

Thank you Larry, I am afraid that I've never outgrown being horse crazy and go to great lengths to keep up my horse habit :~). Adopting a mustang is not difficult, basically anyone that has the appropriate facilities can do this. The adoption fee is 125.00 and they (Bureau of Land Management /BLM) makes sure that the horses have been vaccinated, gelded (castrated) and in good health. Every so often there are adoption fairs where they bring in a adoptable horses to local fairgrounds around the states. There are also holding facilities throughout the U.S. where the horses go to when they are first captured. It was at one of these holding facilities that we found Dakota (my mustang).

Dakota was not a planned baby so-to-speak. You see, the weekend that my hubby had been laid off work we went to Palomino Valley Nevada to help our daughter pick up a horse that she had adopted. While we were waiting to load up we walked around the facility checking out the horses. Many of these animals are decedents of released Calvary horses, Spanish horses and working horses that were mixed into the wild herds by ranchers wanting to improve the wild stock (for later capture). That particular weekend there was 1500 horses of every shape, size and color there. We came across one pen of colts with the saddest little guy in the corner alone, hiding from all the older horses that were bullying him. When we walked up and held out our hands (not really expecting anything) Dakota walked up to us, it was love at first sight! This does not commonly happen, these horses are absolutely wild. My wonderful, ever supporting hubby said "we'll take him", then looked at me and said "we can't leave him here, can we? "It is all going to be OK". Needless to say I was a bit stunned at the suggestion that bring home another mouth to feed when our finances were looking so grim. Especially since my hubby is a horse person only because he is married to one. Adopting Dakota was a leap of faith and my reminder that everything works out.

Anyway didn't mean to go down so far down that path, sorry. Adopting a mustang is surprisingly simple, however the gentling / domesticating process is another matter. Often folks get into it without realizing that these are big, wild animals that require special handling, knowledge and skills, or at the very least a genuine interest in learning how to do this. The upside is that once these horses are gentled and trust is built they tend to be very nice. After they have been in your care for one year, BLM gives you the horses title and he is officially yours.

Cat are so funny, they get these ideas and it is hard to change their mind, isn't it? When our new neighbors moved in this year we were having a conversation about our animals. I told them that they would most likely never see Luna due to her "shyness". About the time that I finished that sentence Luna strolls out of the office, looks at me, swishes her tail, and sits down to stare at the neighbors! I am in disbelief that she is sitting in the same room with strangers! My neighbor says "Oh, that is YOUR cat?" "She hangs out over at our house all the time and watches us". I guess that Luna had determined that they were old friends. Go figure!

No Larry, though I had over 200 hundred birds, I only had a handful of parrots and those were of the poicephalus group (Senegals, Meyers, Jardines etc..), which are very quiet birds. My breeding program was based on mostly Estrildid finch, softbills and grass parakeets. My emphasis was on getting wild caught finch to breed and raise their own babies in captivity (another long story). Unfortunately feather dust is very irritating to the lungs, I eventually developed allergies and breathing problems that ended raising birds.

Handfeeding is a lot of work and I've done my fair share. Probably the most that I ever fed at one time was a dozen babies that I had taken in for a friend who was overwhelmed. I tend to worry so much about the babies that it makes the job even harder.

Cats and birds can be a tricky combination. Not impossible though. I have always been amazed at how many people have both in the house and live in peace. I think Jen has a bourke parakeet (an Australian Grass Keet) if I remember correctly, and cats.

Yep, those are Tillandsias in Winston's aquarium. When she was a teeny baby turtle, I mounted a peace of wood above the water in her aquarium so that she had a place to "hide" under. I attached Tillies to the wood. They actually bloomed in there (nice and close to the fluorescent light).

Yep, I've got two Bourke's up in the sunroom. I close the door to the upstairs when I'm not up there because I don't completely trust the kittens with either the birds or the plants! Star pays very little attention to the birds, but she eats my ferns..."the babies" (kittens Elody and Buttercup) sit on the cage and do their vulture act, terrorizing the birds whenever they get the chance (seldom, now that I'm wise to their ways.) The babies stalk the glider, too, but he grew up with a bunny and he doesn't realize they're any different, so he's not scared.
I have to get my new camera's software loaded so I can get some pictures up again. The instruction manual of encyclopedic proportion has me intimidated, but sooner or later I'll sit down and go through it.

Winston is very special to me, I had no idea that one could get so attached to a turtle! I think my Amy got her for me as the next best thing buying her for herself. She already has a houseful. When Amy was 10 she "gifted" her father with ducklings for Father's Day, just what every father dreams of! (yeah right!). I have to admit that my first thought when she gave her to me was "Oh man,,,I'm gonna have to set up an aquarium and find a spot for it!". Of course now I am so glad to have her and love "landscaping" her tank. There are some very cool aquatic plants out there!

Well...I just love seeing pics of everyone's pets here! I just love animals. Not to open any cans of worms here, but a comment about the PMU horses that I saw mentioned in call lady's album...this is the often sad biproduct of the industry I am studying in right now (reproductive physiology and genetics of animals). Many researchers are out there doing great things, but sometimes the animals end up with not so kind fates after they outlive their usefulness. I am frustrated by this, and am hoping that in a small way I can hope to change some of this in the future. To me the animals are a gift, without which some very vital research could not continue, and therefore we should treat them as such. Unfortunately there are some people in my lab that don't share my view, this upsets me greatly at times.... Sorry for the rant.

On a more positive note, I wanted to share some pics of my babies, the not-so-fuzzy Cleo the potbellied pig, and the very fuzzy Sebastian and Ivy, my two kitties. They are my family and make for a very active little household. Cleo is actually going through her "shedding phase" right now, and vacuuming up pig hair is not as easy as it sounds. It gets caught in everything! But the funniest part about it, is right now she looks rather bald...

Kim, great pictures - Cleo is precious! Funny I never thought of pigs going through the shedding process, but of course they would. I can imagine that their stiff hair would be a bit more difficult to vacume up.

Yep, the PMU horses are a sad story. I found our about them when a friend asked me to look up some info about Premarin on the internet. I was blown away when I found out where it came from (heartbreaking and so unnecessary!). I've been hoping that Premarin use has gone way down with all of the negative news about HRT. Needless to say my friend did not end up using it.

Cena,,, I never got to comment on your chicken pen the first time that you posted it - what a great idea!!! Very cool that you can move it around to "specific" spots (nice damage control!) Also appears to be great protection (from that hungry lion stalking them, haha!) VERY clever! Cute ladies too,,,, have they begun to start laying yet? Chickens are fun garden companions, my old girls loved to hang out with me while I weeded, peering around my hands to see what delicious morsel I might have turned up,,,mmmm nothing like a fat worm or grub to make a hen's day, lol.....

Seeing these cute kitty pictures makes me think that some cats like to sleep together (we have always had just one cat at a time). I remember how Luna would sneak up on our dog Shaya, when she was asleep, (Shaya was very cat phobic) and curl up with her. Shaya would be mortified to wake up and find herself with a cat settled in next to her tummy. I think Luna saw her as a nice warm spot for a snooze.

Yes, regular egg production. Some of the girls are coming up, since the light increase. I had been getting one egg every other day, but recently, until yesterday and today, have been getting two EVERY day. There is special feed and such, since the rain I took the lay mash out of the pen, it is a grainular powder and cakes down with rain. I think that all five girls have laid at least an egg. I checked out the equipment the other day, and everybody except the all white seems to show signs of being in production. Now, we just have to wait. I have really enjoyed my fresh eggs. But with 6 birds I don't think I'm going into 'business' anytime soon.

I've also got two ferrets. Grover is the chocolate colored one and Zoey is the darker sable colored one. I got them from a ferret rescue. They had beed rescued out of a garbage dumpster. About the only time that I can get a good pic of her is when she is sleeping or when she is yawning. Those are the only times that she stays still. Most of the other pics I have of her are just dark streaks.
