Squash vine borer

During the summer I had summer squash that had SVB. I eventually dug up the plants with the SVB still in them and threw them out, although I'm sure there's some grubs in the soil waiting. . . I'm starting my fall garden and would like to plant winter squash in the place where I had summer squash as this is the most ideal spot for them-it's the only area of my yard that isn't heavily shaded. My question is: Will I be safe planting during the fall? It says the season is until early summer, although it mentions that there can be two cycles in Florida, but I'm thinking it's Southern Florida and not Northern where I am. If I till would that make a difference. I plan on adding some great compost I've been working on since spring.
