Congrats! I'm having a good year too with my heirloom white cukes. I interplanted with fern leaf tansy to keep the bugs away, then mulched with grass clippings, and this is the best crop I've had in 3 years. I've made pickles, given some to neighbors, and have eaten some great cucumber sandwiches. :)

sigh Im begining to think my cukes will not produce anything....its almost August and all I have is flowers everywhere but no cukes

I wouldn't worry orangedragonfly, there's plenty of time left in the season. You'll have more than you know what to do with before you know it.

Don't know the name of my heirloom cukes, just got seed a couple years ago from a trader in TN who got them from his grandmother, if I recall correctly. They are just like the ones my great-aunt used to grow in NC. I love them! They are best eaten when small, and don't grow as long as regular cukes anyway, though they will get pretty thick if left on the vine too long. The one I left for seed last year looked like a little football!

Intriguing. These are the exact stories that create new varieties of heirloom vegetables. You should search your email records to see if you can track down the trader and inquire further...

Glad you are having such success. I feel the same about Tasty Green which I am growing for the first time this year. It's been highly productive and tastes great, and has not succumbed to disease which the other variety I grew has.

I'm enjoying our lemon cucumbers. They are producing like crazy, while my burpless plant is just setting it's first fruit. I don't have any cool varieties like you guys do, but they all sound intriguing. I have lemon, burpless and Armenian. We have only harvested one Armenian so far. I may have left in on the plant too long, because the skin seemed too tough and the seeds were hard to chew. It was also pretty bitter. I kept waiting for it to get long and snake-like. But it just was short and fat. Could it have been cross-pollinated with the lemon cukes?

My cucumbers are just now starting! We are commuting gardeners so often pile into the pickup hungry, tired, hot, and thirsty. A peeled cuke is sure appreciated in such circumstances.

I've grown Turbo for quite a few years now, Raise. It is also a favorite. Once again, I've got things mixed up out there amongst the vines but I'm confident that it's the Raiders and maybe the Speedways that have started things off. Speedways are new to me this year but Raiders are really early.

Remarkably, the Tasty Kings have already kicked in! I'm liking that variety more each year (now 2 ;o). It will be awhile yet for the lemon cukes.

Since the cukes have started and I've got the sweet onions too, whereÂs the ripe tomato? The apple cider vinegar can come from the store and I should be able to find a fork.

I have had a great year with cukes as well. I grew Diva, Boothbys Blonde, Poona Kheera and Lemon in the spring. All were productive with Diva and BB having the edge there. Taste wise I would have to go with Diva. Right now I have County Fair, Poona Kheera and Straight 8 growing and the CF are starting to crank them out. Here are a few pics

Wow, nice pictures. I like the looks of the round cucumbers. Next season I aim to try a lemon type of cuke. I want to experiment more because cukes are one of those veggies that everyone in this family will eat non-stop until the plants give up. I have been careful to over-water them every day, which seems to be a good policy based on the yield.

I agree, they do like their water. My inground plants have a soaker hose next to them and I turn it on to a trickle and usually let it go overnight. Usually once a week in the spring but probably twice a week in the summer if we dont have rain. My container plants get water morning and afternoon.
