nannygoat - thank you for the boost! I'm 56, and have no health issues other than the lymphoma (which is in remission from the R-ICE chemotherapy), so I'm a good candidate for this ASCT. I'm glad your husband had such a great outcome. I fully expect to follow ALL their recommendations/requirements to the letter. Like you said, they do these every day. May I ask where he had his? Mine is being done in Pittsburgh. I toured the inpatient unit a week ago, which helped me greatly.

I know you have been champing at the bit to Get Going! Sorry for the bone pain related to this procedure, but what a wonderful improvement on the old needle-in-the-bone to harvest stem cells! We'll be 'all ears' to hear about your journey with this. GIANT LEAP FORWARD!

What a blessing you are receiving this treatment, I will pray hard for you that you only need the one and also that you continue on towards much better days and nights. God bless.

idstarr --- Pittsburgh would have been about 12 hours closer for us! We live in south central PA, a little west of Harrisburg and my husband's SCT was done at the VA Medical Center in Nashville. So we spent 2 months living in Nashville. 2 1/2 weeks additional testing and interviews, 2 1/2 weeks inpatient, and 2 1/2 weeks being seen as an outpatient.

It sounds as though you are in good shape going into this and you should do fine. My husband has multiple myeloma and amyloidosis and he was not in remission going into this, although he felt fine. Looking back, I think his worse side effect, which was from the chemo given prior to the transplant, was fatigue to the point where he didn't feel up to working out on the exercise bike in his hospital room. This lasted for about 3-4 days. He was still able to spend most of the day up in a recliner chair and take walks about the unit. They do emphasize that exercise is important.

Of course, each person is different and side effects vary but I wanted to point out that the various side effects associated with this procedure may not be severe.

Good luck --- hang in there--- take each day as it comes. One day will follow another and soon this will be behind you and you can go forward with your life.
