The squiggly trail on one leaf was caused by a leafminer. The white stuff is from citrus whiteflies and sooty mold, which occurs along with whiteflies. Don't panic. These won't kill your tree. You can hose off the whiteflies. The leafminers are already inside the leaf, so there's not much to do now, but you can control the adult form with sticky traps you hang near your citrus. I don't think anyone is saying it is easy but pest control is a standard part of gardening. No one gets off scott free, got a garden you got pests and varmints. So the main problem sounds like something at night eating the tomatoes. Are these green tomatoes or ripening ones? Different varmints go after them at different stages. If ripening then you don't leave them on the vine. You pick them at color break and take them indoors. If it is all happening at night then I agree with Dan that it isn't squirrels. Squirrels are day raiders. But everything else is just a guess until you go out at night and watch and see exactly what is doing it. While out there you take a flashlight along and look for slugs and snails working on your lettuce and spinach. They eat holes in the leaves but they do not take the whole plant - rabbits do, groundhogs do. Is there unrestricted access to your garden? No fencing? Are rats common in the neighborhood? Raccoons seen? Rabbits? Skunks? All of them raid at night and IMO good fencing is the only thing that works permanently. All the other tricks are just temporary. Dave

Never spray any fruit tree with anything when in full bloom!! That's when all the pollinators are present and most active and spraying then with anything other than water can kill them. Copper is a fungicide - it won't kill whatever insect pests may be bothering your trees. And if used to control leaf curl, timing is critical. Spray in fall after leaf drop to eliminate overwintering spores and again in late winter or early spring before bud break. Do not spray on foliage...once showing signs of infection, a fungicide will not help. The worms you have been seeing do sound like the larvae of plum curculio. And there are various ways of approaching control of this pest problem as well. Clean up and disposal of any fallen fruit, a light cultivation of the soil around the trees in early spring to dislodge and expose overwintering larvae and shaking or jarring the tree when the adults are present. Spraying is a fall-back option but needs to be undertaken at the appropriate time. Control of fruit tree pests and diseases is very specific as to the problem so it is best to read up on the problems before attempting a broad spectrum, spray-for-everything approach that is unlikely to be effective and may actually be harmful. Most of the extension services (.edu websites) will have online publications addressing these issues and the best time to treat. And the Missouri Botanical Garden website (MOBOT) has excellent and accurate information as well.

Denise, take several good pictures of the problem and text or email them to the grower. The images need to be clear; no question about what the pest is. Tell the grower that you cannot accept an infested plant and that you would like your money back. If they want the tree back, it should be at their cost. You can be business like but you are the one who has received a bad plant. Trust me, any nursery who sends buggy plants to their customers is fully aware of it. Just take and send the pictures immediately, not days or weeks later.
