Any Help for Earring Allergies?
Comments (16)I developed a severe nickel allery in my early twenties and spent the next twenty-five years using Synalar cream, a topic steroid, (a tube lasted me almost two years) and Monet clip on earrings, only for a few hours a day. Fast forward to titanium availability and I had my ears re- pierced about thirteen years ago, and I did use Simply Whispers, which worked WITH the Synalar cream. HOWEVER, my ear lobes became very thin--I had moved around during my adulthood and just asked various doctors to renew my prescription, and I looked it up--long term use of steroids can thin the skin. My husband had diamond studs custom made with platinum but they still bother me if I wear them more than eight hours or so (I never told him that). I'm not sure why. So, you might try the Synalar cream and Monet brand earrings (pierced or clip) and remove them when you are at home or when you can. Titanium works too but it's hard to find. Good luck!...See Moreears itch deep inside ...... any help?
Comments (5)Well, I think you have diagnosed it!! I the past two weeks have had a nose that runs so bad... just clear discharge, a HORRIBLE deep non-productive whooping/wracking cough & now with the itchy ears... well, I tried some antihistamine I had & it does seem to help for awhile! The ears are less itchy & for a few hours after taking the pill my nose runs less & the cough is less also. It got so bad I couldn't sleep & my stomach muscles were so sore from the horrible deep coughing. I never had an allergy before & at my age I never thought I would get any now but.... guess what: surprize!! Been a mild dry winter here & I guess there is already pollen in the air. I do remember my last blood work showed an elevated eosinophil count & that can be due to allergies! Thanks! If it keeps up I may have to get a Rx for it instead of the OTC antihistamines I took...See MoreHELP - I can't stop itching
Comments (27)Patty_cakes has a good point: My hand-eczema worsen when I drink citrus juice, esp. Orange/pinapple/strawberries. There are so many pesticides on strawberries that can set off a rash. I have no problems with cranberry juice (no pesticide & no need for citric acid since it's so sour). What's worse, they add citric acid to juice. Citric acid is made commercially from a genetically-modified black mold, rather than from citrus fruits. Lots of people are allergic to that. I can tolerate juice WITHOUT chemical citric acid .. much better than juice with citric acid added. Also find that applying Milk of Magnesium STOP THE ITCH better than other remedies, be it hydroxide peroxide, calamine lotion, iodine, or apple vinegar cider. Milk of Magnesium works because magnesium relaxes the tissue, thus help in calming the itch. With my 3 years of eczema & itching right hand, I have tried all remedies possible....See MoreDogs and Skin Allergies Help
Comments (21)Our Megan used to get all itchy this time of year. She would end up on corticosteroids, which made her nervous and she would pant and just not settle and relax. I hated seeing her like that. A few years ago I took her to a holistic vet. He put her on a predigested dog food and some supplements. One supplement was licorice, one was an auto-immune remedy that was actually made for people. I started her on this treatment at least a month before her seasonal allergy time. It turned out that she became sensitive to that darned dog food with the predigested proteins - just after I bought a second bag of it. She would vomit after eating it. If I remember right, we had to take her in to our own vet to get her looked at for vomiting. So OUR vet says, why not do an allergy blood test? This is the same vet who was giving her prednisone every August and September! He knew we had pet health insurance and would have done anything to help her feel better. So he ran the allergy test and it came back saying she was allergic to beets, potatoes, carrots, and wheat. The way the holistic doctor explained it to us was that if she is allergic to food, that is a year-round thing. If she is not reacting year-round, it is because her immune system was not overwhelmed and was coping with that level of irritation. When you added her seasonal inhalant allergies in August and September, she was then overwhelmed, and the result was skin irritation - which seems to be the most common way that allergies of all types are seen in dogs. So, every summer we would get very diligent about her food allergies, starting in about June. That way, by August she would not be having reactions to her food and would better handle the inhalant allergies that started then. After starting this routine, we were able to control her allergies and keep her comfortable with a Benadryl pill once or twice a day....See Morecacye
