ears itch deep inside ...... any help?

I have dry ears inside the ENT Dr. says & prescribed an ointment (Triamcinolone) to be put in each ear. I have been using this for over a year & still the ears itch intensly deep inside! Any one have this problem & if so, what have you found to be of any help? I want to just dig in the ears & scratch them... driving me crazy!!

Mine drive me crazy too sometimes. I know what my problem is, it's allergies.

So maybe you have the same problem. Have you ever tried any antihistimine medication? If not, it might be worth while to try a mild OTC thing like Benedryl at night. If it seems to help, even a little, maybe a trip to an allergist might be worth while.

I never thought I had any allergies but guess the ear problem driving me crazy could be one. I do just now have a very weird unproductive 'whooping-like'cough that is keeping me awake & muscles so sore from coughing so will try some antihistamines. We have had a mild winter even for here & I see some plum tree buds forming on the fruit trees so perhaps other things like cedar, etc. are putting out pollen early now too. Thanks for the suggestion!

Wow, thanks Brenda, I never would have thought of that! I will definitely check it out at the pet store, as my experiments with it really helped, particularly in keeping my tomatoes from getting that blossom end rot you get when the moisture level is so inconsistent. If I can get it less expensively, I can use it in all my pots and have to struggle less with keeping up with watering. ksrogers, I wonder if that is why the tarragon in the stores around here is so bland? When I lived in the Bay Area, I used to buy it at my favorite produce market and it was simply wonderful, but ever since moving to the valley, it tastes little better than grass that was maybe grown next to tarragon. It's funny, one doesn't think of herbs as having different cultivars, but I have two pots of marjoram, and they bear only slight resemblance to each other. I bought a kumquat and a bare root nectarine the other day. The gal at the nursery told me to top the nectarine right above 4 "limbs" (twigs, more like) as soon as I planted it, but I chickened out, so it's in a nice pot, untopped at the moment. I was screwing up my courage to do it today, but a storm came in and it's been too wet and icky to do anything in the yard. I know I have to do it, but it seems such a brutal thing to do to a new "baby" I just brought home. My daffodils are starting to bloom and I put in some primroses the other day, so the yard isn't looking quite as winter-bleak. But, the green beans I planted indoors in pots on the 10th sprouted, and then mysteriously grew no leaves. Finally, I dug one up and have deduced that the plants succumbed to the craving for fresh greens in my one indoor-only cat. Grumble. So, now I have dug up a pot full of sprouting bird seed from under the feeder to do duty as kitty-salad, and must start over again with the green beans.

clicking in the ears .... any one?

Think everyone has it & can make it happen by flexing something back where the ear enters the throat cavity. I also tried once to explain (difficult to do, isn't it?!)to the ENT doctor what I was curious about & he said it was normal but I don't believe he gave it a name either. Swallowing at times will do it but usually it is flexing some muscles on either side of the throat/ear inside. I assume the clicking is on both sides? Mine is. Interesting though, isn't it?! I do also have tinnitis though but don't believe it has anything to do with the 'clicking'. SO.... it is perfectly normal I understand & I'd assume everyone has it or can do it!

Blood tests generally only show a small percentage of allergens. They only test like 20 main allergens, and there are hundreds (if not thousands) of things you could be allergic too. Or, you may have Non-Allergic Rhinitis causing all the itching. It presents and generally has the same symptoms and can be treated the same way as allergies. In other words, just because your blood test (or even a skin test) doesn't come up positive for anything, doesn't mean you don't/can't have any allergies or allergy symptoms. You may want to run this by your doctor first, but for the ear itching, I use a q-tip with some peroxide on it. It fizes a little and really seems to help the itching instantly. Again, mine is probably allergy related so it helps. But if yours is something else (especially if you think it's dry ear-- although I haven't really heard of that) peroxide may make it worse. In fact I think peroxide is a drying agent even sometimes used for too much water and swimmers ear so don't use without asking your doctor especially if you have 'dry ear'. It really works wonders on my ear itching though. Have you tried the baby shampoo cleansing? Mix a little baby shampoo in some warm water and use it to cleanse your eye. I picked up the idea when I had to do this when my kid had a stye. Again, may want to run the idea by your doctor first depending on your condition, but at least it's an idea that could work.

Look inside the ear & see if there's a bunch of black gunky stuff that looks something like coffee grounds; that would be ear mites. You can "wash" them out with mineral oil, & then add a bit more mineral oil to suffocate any survivors. Put it in a squirt bottle & gently put a little in the ear, massage it externally, down into the base of the ear, & stand back. If the ear is swollen, red, hot, and/or hard, there's an infection, & I think you have to consult a vet.

People usually think of allergies causing runny nose (hayfever) or itchy eyes. But Allergic Bronchitis is another annoying one. You cough...and cough....and cough and never really get relief.

Try an allergist. He/she will probably start you with an antihistimine that is stronger than you can buy without a presciption.

It might be pollen or something in your house like feather pillows or mold and mildew.

Well, I think you have diagnosed it!! I the past two weeks have had a nose that runs so bad... just clear discharge, a HORRIBLE deep non-productive whooping/wracking cough & now with the itchy ears... well, I tried some antihistamine I had & it does seem to help for awhile! The ears are less itchy & for a few hours after taking the pill my nose runs less & the cough is less also. It got so bad I couldn't sleep & my stomach muscles were so sore from the horrible deep coughing.

I never had an allergy before & at my age I never thought I would get any now but.... guess what: surprize!! Been a mild dry winter here & I guess there is already pollen in the air. I do remember my last blood work showed an elevated eosinophil count & that can be due to allergies!

If it keeps up I may have to get a Rx for it instead of the OTC antihistamines I took

It sure sounds like allergy reactions. Clear nose drool is a pretty good sign. With a cold or infection, it would be more yellow.

Untreated allergies can develop into Asthma. The Bronchitis can get worse until you can't get air in or out. You don't want that to happen. Allergies can reach a point that they spring up at any age. Someone in your neighborhood may have planted some unusual flowers or there's one too many cats around for you to handle. A good allergist looks at what changes have happened.

I have found that prescription medication is often less expensive than OTC.
