On the sin scale of 1-10 (10 being the very cauldron of hell) ...

... how bad is it if i don't prune this year?

I planted a little over a dozen fruit trees in 2007. Since then, as far as pruning goes, all i've done is repair some deer damage or eliminate some obviously "bad" branches (those that are going straight up or down in the interior, those that are crossing, etc.).

Now that these trees have been in the ground a while, i know it's getting on time for me to think about a more aggressive pruning plan to control scaffolding and tree size. Although i've been watching youtube instructional videos and looking on-line for how to's, i'm scared to death of making those less obvious pruning cuts. I've been procrastinating over it, and now it's almost too late.

What will happen if i don't prune this year? Am i setting myself up for a world of hurt? Should i just get the clippers out, rub alcohol on them, and tackle both my fear and my trees?

I don't know why this is daunting me so.

Help?
