They should go into your fridge, not freezer. The reason February is a good time is because the tree should be fully dormant and that's about the latest you can count on that. Too early and they spend more time in storage during which they can mold or dry out. With good storage conditions though both are manageable. You want relatively straight new growth that is hardened off and dormant. Maybe pencil diameter in lengths perhaps 6-12" long. Store them in a ziplock bag wrapped in a barely damp paper towel. Put them in the fridge. Every month or so, check and verify that there is still some moisture in the bag and they aren't molding. In the early spring graft them onto another tree or rootstock. Or just buy another King apple tree. It will be the same effect.

Toni. Thanks. But I don't understand your question. What stock did I use to graft all citrus on? As you can see all the host plants are different. All I did was to graft a different tree to a branch of the host plants so what do you mean by what stock did I use? Marc, heh, I do just what you do Marc. Every morning I can't wait till daybreak till I go to my yard and look specially for the new grafts that I did whether there is any changes as of yesterday. Then I'd inspect each and every one of them for bugs and such. Yesterday, I saw a BIG bird munching on my riped cherries. My first thought was to get my newly bought air rifle 1000 fps velocity but then I debated it only was looking for its food and must be hungry. And I just shoo'd it away. I end up plucking the cherries and munched them myself. So sweet. Those Prince Ranier cherries. And when my kid came from school we got as much as we can and ate them last night while watching TV. My kid kept on putting them in his mouth while harvesting them. So those are the fruit of your labor. Are you bored really? Those are the happppiest moment waiting for your fruits to ripen. At least for me. It makes your every day a pleasant one.

You can only graft other citrus to citrus. Persimmons only to other persimmons. Very, very few species are cross-compatible outside of their own genus, and many not even within their own genus. There isn't any limitation, to my knowledge, of grafting various Citrus together, so you could graft various types of citrus onto your existing tree, to increase the crop diversity.

Hi John. We have access to good citrus too BUT, you have to be willing to pay good money for them. For instance, I had never seen cocktail grapefruits locally. I found them at a Wegmans about 40 minutes from my house. We have a closer Wegmans, they just don't carry them. Last year or the year before, they were selling one of my top favorite citrus fruits, Minneola Tangelo. They were 4/$5! Yes, the fruits looked really nice bur cmon! Was the peel dipped in 14k GOLD! The cocktail grapefruits were the same, and the large navel oranges(also a top fav of mine) were $1 each and they were in SEASON!! I also got hooked on Meyer lemons. I could drink Meyer lemonade year round but here in western NY, they also sell for a premium. I was buying bags of them for $5 and there was maybe 5 or 6 small to medium fruits per bag. I forgot to mention they were organic, so this must have also jacked up the price. John I think growing your one citrus is the way to go. I now have 5 lemon trees(3 Meyer lemon, 1 each of Pink variegated and Ponderosa), an Oro Blanco and a Star Ruby, and a Kishu Mandarin that probably won't make it. I am hoping I can replace it this year! Lastly, is the new Tango mandarin I just bought a couple weeks ago. I have extremely high hopes for this tree, considering it is 3 1/2ft tall all ready, I should have fruits by next spring :) Andrew
