Looking For Advice On Apple Varieties

Neil289

I want to plant apples trees, and I live in NE Oklahoma. The climate presents challenges. It gets cold in winter and very hot in summer and there are severe storms in spring and droughts in summer.

I have figured out, based on Ag extension materials, the M111 rootstock will be best. However, state materials about apple varieties are pretty slim.

I am looking for apples varieties with the following traits:

1. Bloom date is not too early but is instead a mid to late bloomer (since we have late frosts).

2. The apple variety is heat tolerant and the fruit develops well even in the heat (I will keep them watered).

3. The fruit is a good keeper/storage.

4. Ideally, I would like some variety in the varieties as far as sweetness/tartness and fruit maturity date.

5. Disease resistance would be nice, but I can trade that for good quality heirlooms.

Some varieties I have considered include Arkansas Black, Kidd's Orange Red, White Permain, Black Twig, and Baldwin.

Do those sound good, and do you have any other suggestions?
