Peach 'Sugar Princess'......ever heard of it?
Comments (8)Donna: Sugar Princess is one of the new Zaiger cultivars from California. This group of white fleshed peaches sweetens up early while still hard, and is very sweet at ripening time, but has no detectable peach flavor at any stage of development. They also color up very early in the ripening stage, which is good if you like very red peaches. I have a 7-year old Sugar Giant tree from the same series, and I wish I could give it to you. In addition to being tasteless, the fruit is highly susceptible to bacterial spot and scab. We often freeze peaches when the crop is too large for fresh use, but these newer white types lack the flavor and acidity to make them appropriate for this use. You would be better off with just about anything else, including the old Elberta, Redhaven, or any number of peach varieties from the Rutgers NJ development program, which really do have some flavor. Nearly all of them are yellow fleshed varieties. There is no reason that peaches that "ship well" should be one of your objectives. The tastiest peach I have is one called Golden Jubilee, an older New Jersey peach released in 1926. Chill hours are not an issue for you, though hardiness might be, depending on how cold it gets where you live and the frequency of cold, drying north winds. Comments (24)I like that pendant. (I'm looking for something similar to replace my beloved pendants over my peninsula that have some issues so I popped over to the CB website.) Are you OK with the low light output? 25 watts is very low. My two glass pendants have 60 watt bulbs and seem like just enough light. Fewer would not be sufficient. Hope I didn't burst your bubble. It's so hard to find just the right pendant shape, in just the right size, with just the right lumens, at just the right price!...See MoreWhich granite is whiter - Super White or White Princess?
Comments (7)I just found my Super White and waiting for it to arrive at my fabricator's. It is gray, but has lovely white that shines thru. I believe the White Princess is overall whiter. For me, this slab tugged at the marble-lover in me and it's the only reason we're not going with marble. Here's a picture of it: First thing DH said when I showed him the photo was, "Wow. What marble is that?!"...See MoreAustin's Princess Anne reviews
Comments (96)I guess I should update my review on this rose. When I wrote my last review earlier in this thread, I had only had Princess Anne for a few months . 2024 will be her third year here in z11, and I have become quite frustrated with the princess. PA is an incredibly healthy plant. She's never had any disease and withstands heat and wind like a champ. HOWEVER... She's just not blooming. Last year she gave maybe six blooms for the spring flush and then a few sparsely scattered throughout the year. Of course I tried upping the fertilizer but nothing could convince her to bloom. This year, all my roses have either started blooming or are covered in buds, but PA continues to put out only foliage. Oh sure, it's lovely, glossy, perfectly healthy foliage... But no trace of any blooms to come. I hate to do away with such a healthy plant, so I'll give her more time, but I think this might be a rose that needs a real winter to bloom properly....See Morefruitnut Z7 4500ft SW TX
