Where can I get Dave Wilson Fruit trees in SJ & bay area?

I am looking for a few particular Dave Wilson fruit trees - after much research, I have settled on some varieties that I like. I live close to Yamagami's and they are always overpriced. I want to find other sources of bare root Dave Wilson trees around San Jose (prices under $25 per tree). I do not mind driving up to 30 minutes to find these specific trees. Any help appreciated.

You might check out mail ordering them from Peaceful Valley, it might be cheaper, or really close. Looks like 10 for $199, delivered.

I'd hurry, they sell out really fast.

I have a Minnie Royal/ Royal Lee pair in a raised bed that went in earlier this year. Fingers crossed. There is actually a commercial variety of low chill cherries that I would LOVE to get my hands on but they sell only to commercial growers. They are known as the "little darlings," Royal Edie and Royal Helen. They fruit later than Minnie/Lee. I have not tasted any of these myself. I'm hoping to have five or six raised beds with 4 in 1 hole. I'm still collecting the trees, but by January should have everything. 4 "Royal" low chill cherries (Minnie/Lee, Edie/Helen) 4 Interspecifics, most likely: Flavor King Pluot Flavor Grenade Pluot Emerald Drop Plu-ot Bella Gold Pea-cot-um A single Weeping Santa Rosa 4 Plums and friends: Sweet Treat Plu-erry Burgandy, Mariposa & Catalina Plum 4 Nectarines and friends: Spice Zee Necta-plum Snow Queen, Panamint, and Double Delight Nectarines 4 Peaches Considering Sugar Giant, OHenry Mid Pride Eva's Pride (Any input here?) The million dollar question is plants and truth in what works in one local vs another. An Elberta peach just south of the mason dixon line tastes better that it would much futher north. Blueberries like rabbit eye taste totally different than blueberriest in the pacific north west. I have a theory that plants adapt sometimes to their environment over long periods of time and in some cirucumstances short periods. I have done a trial on strawberries that used to taste amazing in lousisana but where sent to Oregon for 25 years only to come back to Louisiana tasting like a different berry. I think 25 years of runners adapting at a yearly rate changed the berry to suit the pacific north west. Can I revert it back to the best strawberry in the south in 25 years "after 3 years thus far" you can sure bet I am going to try. Then you have micro climates within regions or even specific properties. Fresh Fiji apples can be killer but how often do people get them really ripe to near the point of over ripeness "most people have never had one like that ready to fall off the tree". I am going to try some harder to grow sweet cherries next year along the gulf coast contrary to what people say. People say you can't grow peaches here either, but with new UF varieties we harvested 200 off a 5 year old tree yesterday so to hell with what was done 30 years ago.

Tissue cultured plants can be made virus, blight, and bacteria free in the process of propagation. However, if a nursery gets virus free tissue cultured trees and puts them next to ones that have the virus, then, they get it, too. I also see people on here complaining that it takes forever for TC figs to produce, or that they never do, or that you can take a cutting from one and the cutting will produce before the original tree. Another thing people complain about with TC plants is that they are tiny. They start out as a few cells. I have bought TC muscadines and the vines were about the size of a matchstick and the roots were in a bag with much less potting medium than a sandwich bag would hold. But they caught up with the same variety purchased at the same time in half gallon pots within 3 months. I have no reason to believe my fig trees are virus free, so I'm not worried about it. But if I was starting out, I would have nothing but TC plants guaranteed to be virus free.

Yes, we have three papayas, and one fig- I couldn't see them out the window I was typing near, LOL. Also a sea grape, but not sure that counts... :) Blueberries keep dying, we've tried them twice. I got a load of chipped pine, about 5 or 6 yards worth this summer, letting it break down, and may try planting in that next year, our soil wants to be naturally about 7 pH, so the pine might help with the blueberries. If I can get one more load of clean pine, I will certainly go for them again. We did a you pick em and what we didn't eat we made into wine.... The sugar apples are SOOOO good. Fortunately, I am the only one that has the patience to eat them!!! It froze to the ground this past year, but has come back two fold. I have not seen any buds/fruit, and this is year two for us. It might be a regrowth year, and next year produce...I will certainly wrap the trunk if we get a comparable winter. They do grow from seed, and I did not have great success from cuttings. We got the plant from the USF plant show. I am familiar with floridata and ifas, but sometimes - well locals can give good advice. My wife volunteered today to start transplanting a large beg of 4 o'clocks, to increase the garden-I'm in awe. So happy she's got the garden bug...I want to see her face after she starts diggin those tubers, and they come back up in the spring though :)

Ashley if you can find Dave Wilson grown trees locally get them. If not of all the online nurseries that sell Dave Wilson trees Peaceful Valley has the best prices by far.

If you can't find them locally or at PV there are two other ways to get them.

If no one has what you are looking for you can order trees from DWN and have them shipped to any participating nursery. However it's to late to do it this season. November 12th was the order deadline for Jan/Feb shipment.

If anyone is wondering the answer is no. I do not work for Dave Wilson or any other nursery online or otherwise.

They just have the varieties I want and a reputation I respect. You only have to buy mislabeled trees that won't fruit in your zone once from a big box store to really appreciate the quality control you get from a top of the line wholesaler like Dave Wilson.
If you follow the links you will find that many of the better online nurseries buy from them. I'm not saying a nursery is no good if they don't sell DWN trees as there are many good nurseries on the Garden Watchdog that don't.
I'm just saying that DWN is a known quantity and they have more low chill fruit tree varieties than any other wholesale nursery I am aware of. I live in a very low chill zone so they have most of what I want which is why I like them.

Depending on how many trees you're looking for there are cheaper sources than Peaceful Valley. Adams County Nursery has awesome prices if you buy 25 or more trees. Shipping is also calculated into their price of $27.95 per tree if you order 3-24 trees. I know for you West Coast guys thats probably further than you like to ship, as I stay away from Nurseries that far away. But wanted to throw that out in case there are any east coast people following this thread

If you are in the San Jose South area God's Little Acre Nursery and Payless Nursery are probably cheaper options than Yamigamis.
I just went to Wegman's this week, they didn't have the Persian Mulberry I was looking for but I was wowed by the selection and picked up a 4n1 Pluot and a Necta-Zee nectarine. They were well stocked though the prices aren't cheap.

Thanks for all the leads! I need only 5-6 trees. And this morning, I went to Yamamgami's and came back with my head spinning - that place is chock full of DW trees - and the prices - $70 per tree for most and $130 for multi-grafts! They did have the Persian mulberrys, jason.
I am going to check all the other leads and call all the nurseries locally to find a better price. If not, I will take thisisme's advise and special order in the fall of this year.

I'm in marin and just ordered a 13 plants for $230 including shipping from raintree. They sell the 4n1 grafted pluot for $49.95 compared to a nursery in berkeley that wanted $120 for same tree. Most other fruit trees $23-28. I ordered 3 plum, 1 peach, 1 grafted pluot, 1 fuyu persimmon, some grapes, raspberry, kiwi

tammy, thanks for the tip, I ordered a few DW peaches and apples from raintree. I also drove down to probuild in santa cruz and picked up a couple of DW nectarines and a DW fuyu.

I get mine from Wegman's Nursery in Redwood City. The people are nice and they carry quite a few of DW's plants.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned baylaurelnursery.com in Atascadero. They carry more of the Dave Wilson Catalog than any nursery I know.

My most productive peach tree is from those guys from 10 years ago. They have wonderful stock. My only criticism is that their stock may not be fully dormant in an el nino year.
