D.I.Y. Vet? How smart?

First a disclaimer: We are a family of animal lovers. We like our vet. We donÂt want to "cheat" her out of anything. But here is the situation:

We adopted a young stray female cat early this year. She got herself in the "family way" and we now have 4 adorable kittens (8-9 weeks). We plan on keeping them and letting them live on the farm as barn cats.

We have always been good about getting our pets their shots and having them fixed, and we want to do that for Gretchen and her babies but just the initial shots and boosters are going to be almost $100 per cat, ThatÂs $500! Not to mention then having them all neutered! We just canÂt afford all of that.

So hereÂs my question. I have seen the sites like PETMEDS and others. Could I (safely) purchase what I need and give them these basic shots myself? If so what do I need for them? Has anyone else done this?

Thanks for the help

Dan

PS - I'm NOT thinking about neutering them myself! LOL
