late bud break on Kingston Black Apple?

I am wondering if others have noticed Kingston Black as having bud break noticeably later than there other varieties?

I have one that has seen a number of challenges over the years. It is now in its 8th leaf or so, and I felt it was starting to rebound from it's issues (early neglect, A brutal late frost, Round headed apple borers...)

But the tree has always broken dormancy much later than those around it. Some years I figure it is toast, and then it opens up a week later on me.

A few days ago while researching something else, I came across a reference to late bud break as a symptom of Crown or root rot.....Aha! This may well fit. I have not dealt with it before, but the tree is in a marginal location in terms of high water table, and on MM-26 (took what I could find back then)which I have read is prone to wet feet issues.

So as I continue to work this tree and decide if I will keep it, it would help to know if I am seeing typical behavior for the variety or something out of the norm.

thanks
