Fencing for deer protection - advice requested

I have a group of about 10 (total) apple and pear trees and another group of 5 peach trees that are all surrounded by individual wire mesh fencing. That worked pretty well for the first year or so, but now the trees are out growing their cages. IÂm thinking of constructing mesh fences around each of these orchards for better deer protection and to give these trees room to grow.

My plan was to use tall wooden fence posts and that "plastic" mesh fencing that I see here around some local wineries. Does anyone have any experience in this area, or pros and cons or advice?

How high should the fence be? Is 6 ft. enough?

Where can I get this mesh fencing material? Locally is probably better than mail order just because of the weight involved, right? Do they sell this stuff at hardware stores or Tractor Supply or Southern States or do I have to go to a specialty shop?

Is there a brand or type or material that I should use or avoid?

Any other tips or advice??

Thanks!!!

Bart
