Does anyone know of a home made groundhog deterrant spray?
Comments (4)I must agree with the previous posts that a "spray on" is not likely to work with groundhogs. Fence is certainly an option. The others I would recommend is a motion activated device called the Contech Scarecrow Sprinkler or a Fear Based Repellent like Shake-Away's Small Critter Repellent. The sprinkler runs on a battery and needs a pressurized water source (hose). Shake-Away can be sprinkled right on the ground around the area you want to protect. Here is a link that might be useful: Groundhog Repellent...See Moregroundhog. .will the fence do the trick?
Comments (10)That's a good point, Bill--and the last place I would dump a groundhog is on or near land that somebody's farming, or has livestock nearby. (I used to own horses, and hate groundhog burrows). Or near somebody else's garden, for that matter. We have a lot of industrial land around here, with a lot of unused (not farmed or built on) acreage--as long as you have permission, you can dump em. My guess is, we're probably feeding the coyotes that live in the area we're thinking about using. And, it may not be that humane to relocate--they don't always survive very well. After this particular critter, we may have some luck simply filling in the burrows--the house next door is unoccupied, and the old burrows in their backyard keep attracting groundhogs looking for territories....See MoreCayenne Deer DeterrentRecipe
Comments (3)Capsaicin is oil-soluble, not water-soluble. I think I'd probably whirl the whole peppers in my blender or food processor with enough oil to make a thin slurry, then strain the oil out and then spray the oil on my plants, perhaps mixed with soap to help it stick better. I'd love to hear how this works! Val...See MoreElectric fence for deer
Comments (3)All my trees and shrubs are deer proof so I don't mind them in the flower beds in the wintertime. As I said, it's impossible for us to deer fence properly without feeling that we are living in a stockade so this is an alternative. My veggie garden is properly fenced. They don't allow shooting in our municipality so we have herds of deer roaming and I'm happy to have some colour in my summer garden....See Moremadmantrapper
