tame or wild duckling?

We think my cat was gonna have herself a midnight snack at 1:30am this morning, but my son spoiled it for her, so glad he did! Anyway I was wondering if you could tell me if it is a wild duck or a tame one. Is it to early to tell. It is so cute and my family has fallen in love with it! We don't think any neighbors have ducks, but one neighbor does have a pond, and it is in a wooded setting! Thanks for any help.

How CUTE! It is probably a wild duck, but even if it is you can still tame it. I have a baby duck that looked like your little one very much, but he is half grown now!

I'm glad that your son found her! He saved her life!

Lucky is right! I found out that it has a mommy and a sibling. It is the neighbors, they had just brought them home and said they put them by the pond, and they were all in the pond when they went to bed. Momma duck was all white, and the other baby was similarto the one I have. They were feeding them bread, and what ever else the ducks could get a hold of! I think they thought they'd be safe to have free range of the pond and their yard!
They can't find the Momma and other baby:(, I hope it wasn't my nasty cats! My cats are drop offs, we feed them and had them fixed, and shots, but other then that they are pretty much wild, and we were lucky to have caught them to have them fixed! They are good mousers and apparently good bird hunters. I hate that.I just couldn't have them put down, if my DH was allergic I'd have them in the house with me, and then they wouldn't have beed so wild.
I asked if they find the Momma and baby to tell me so I could reunite them,( My little guy will be heart broken and so will I, but I can't see keeping them apart!) and if it's ok with them I'd keep "Paddle"
till they find them, this way it will be penned till bigger, and I can keep my cats from getting it! So all I know is Momma was all white!
I let it out but held it and helped it find some bugs! In the process I found 3 horn worms on my tomato plants! One small, one med, which I took to the deadly night shade to see if it would eat it, and one huge one, when I went to remove it from my mater plant it exploded, green yuck all over me!!! I don't like to kill them cuz they are neat to watch and my son thinks they are as cool as toads! He is 4!
The little one wiggled and the duck tried a taste, but in the end spit it out! Guess it was yucky to him/her too!

Lucky, If I have the Pawnee and Peruque switched the labels were switched on the trees. I have two of each and have gotten nuts off both Peruques and one Pawnee, and the Peruques are the same larger nut size. The trees were from Forest Keeling Nursey by way of a commercial pecan orchard that orders for retail sale. I was fairly careful to maintain the IDs as I wanted to know which was which when they finally produced. The Colby was also from Forrest Keeling, but I got it at a Chestnut (and other) festival run by the University of Missouri. Forrest Keeling had a booth and sold pecans there. I wanted a Kanza, but Colby was all they had by the time I got there. I am willing to believe the labels were wrong. My wild pecans are all small, though they work with my Duke pecan cracker OK, so I'll be shelling them for SWMBO to make goodies with. A few years ago the Missouri Conservation Department sold pecan trees that were seedlings of named varieties, like Colby, Posey, Hardy Giant and another I can't recall. I planted several of those but didn't go to any great lengths to protect them. There are about six or seven still hanging on, and some are doing pretty well, so who knows? Maybe I'll have a nice nut producer I can call Big Chuck in a few more years! Chuck

Black-cap raspberries (Rubus occidentalis) and some hybrid purple raspberries (black cap crossed with red) are the only hardy raspberries that can do this. Red raspberries always refuse to tip-root in my experience. There are black-caps wild in the woods here in the NW suburbs, though they are far less numerous than they once were due to a virus that causes severe leaf curl and eventually, death. Poor Fred was a pet. From what I read, he loved to be hand-fed sweet potatoes. He wasn't a danger to anyone. I also find it troubling that this kid was allowed to take several hours and 8 or 9 shots to kill Fred. From what I've heard, hunting ethics dictate a clean, fast kill. And I am also disgusted by Fred's former owner who, according to the article below said: "... the pig was too big and needed killing". What the heck is that supposed to mean?? Can the wild species roses be tamed to climb a fence?

I love species roses! I have numerous CA native species and have seen others elsewhere. R. gymnocarpa at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden near me I've never seen get over 2 1/2 to 3 feet tall. Short and bushy. Not a climbing habit. I didn't notice it suckering. I grow R. pinetorum 'Beatrice Howett' from RSABG. It is also a small rose. I haven't had it all that many years in my garden, but it hasn't suckered. However at RSABG it is well-established and suckering happily. It's more a lax grower there and doesn't look big enough to climb a fence unless it was a very short one. RSABG grows selections of R. californica from different parts of the state, and they do indeed have a variety of habits, from short and sparse to bushy to climbing, some even completely thornless. All of them I've seen sucker from moderately to A LOT. The one I grow that is capable of climbing (with support) is R. californica 'First Dawn'. Canes are long and pliable, it has only moderate thorns, and is in the moderately suckering category. It has the best rebloom of any R. californica I have yet seen. RSABG also has R. nutkana. It suckers pretty wildly, and the ones I've seen have gotten maybe 5 feet tall. Then there is R. minutifolia. At RSABG it has been growing for decades and it spreads rather than pops up in entirely new spots like the suckering champions do. I have numerous R. minutifolias in my yard. Two of which I am training to climb up Monterey Cypress 'Citriodora'. I decided to have fun and experiment since I like this rose so much, give it a challenge. It seems to be working with one of the plants already reaching around 6 feet up. Minutifolia tends to be an arching grower (but some plants are very shrubby), building big mounds that kind of spread like a fungus.;) R. minutifolia can become unhappy and die in areas with too much rainfall. RSABG also has R. spithamea. It is kind of short and bushy there (2 to 2 1/2 feet), but that plant hasn't been growing on the grounds very long so I don't know if it will end up getting much taller. I wonder though because they planted it right in front of a big educational sign and I would think they wouldn't if it was going to get huge. I haven't noticed it suckering, but it is probably too soon to say.

Brenda, hey! aaaahhhh! I hope the momma and baby are ok! That's the worst thing about cats (they kill birds and little animals) We have a cat. We also have 20 ducks and 1 goose. Our cat someone had dropped her off and when I found her she was in my duck pen! It scared me SO bad! But, when I put her out of our fence she kept coming right back! We ended up keeping her and she gets along with our ducks. But, they aren't babies, they are grown so that might be why she gets along so well with them. They are big ducks and she is a small cat, so she might be a little afraid of them--I don't know--I'm just glad they get along!

Usually a cat won't kill a grown duck, but if it's a wild cat then it might try. Maybe the momma didn't feel safe and led her other baby off somewhere so they could be by themselves???

Paddle is a cute name. He looks a lot like my duck 'Ranger' did when he/she was a baby. I'm still not sure if mine is a boy/girl yet.

What kind is he? Is his mom a pekin duck? I know he can't be a full-blooded pekin since he has the brown on him.
But, mixed breed ducks can be so beautiful! I have a pekin/blue swedish mix and she is gorgeous!

We have no idea what paddle is, all we know was the mom was all white! That was all the neighbor knew too. her husband brought them home from some farm and put them on his pond. I don't think they planed on doing anything else with them, and I thing they thought they could fend for them selves!
I don't know for sure!
They live in a wooded area, all kinds critters that cound get them ducks, so it's anybodys guess. I kinda hope they show but ay the same time I want to keep paddle!
