Runway to Room: Bold Prints Strut Indoors
Unabashed geometrics, oversize florals and other bold prints kick wallflowers to the curb in 12 fashion-focused rooms
Spring 2012 is all about superbold prints, according to Fashion Week runways, and these looks are not about to go unnoticed. From striking geometrics to oversized florals to everything in between, these prints are brimming with color, drama and eye appeal. And you know where else they’d look incredible? In the home. Below, find 12 photos of interiors with wild prints full of personality to inspire your own interior designs.
Geometric prints were a big item on the runways during Fashion Week. This space shows that even if you have two prints in the same colorway (the pillows and rug), if you introduce them in different scales, they will still create visual dimension. The piece above the couch delivers an invigorating blast of color in a hot design.
Oversize floral prints also showed up in droves. And they weren’t your typical floral prints: Many had unusual elements, like branches or twigs, making this wallpaper right on trend. Creating an accent wall versus papering the entire room lets the wallpaper seem even more unexpected.
A few looks had the models dressed primarily in black or neutrals with a jacket or accessory featuring a loud print. In this room, black and white throw pillows provide texture and allow the colorful prints to truly pop. Ottomans in the same print sprinkled around the space carry the theme throughout the room.
Again, in this example, one brightly colored throw pillow in an overscaled print complements black and white pillows for a punch of interest.
This chair’s incredible upholstery merits attention. Bold colors in an eclectic design topped with a quirky pillow accessory are exactly on trend.
Just like on the runways, a bright color mixed with bold patterns in the home is sure to make an impact. A headboard with a colorful print adds just enough flair without interrupting the calm of a bedroom.
Models wearing prints featuring parrots were seen strutting through Fashion Week. That’s why this room, with its oversize lip print and Warholian throws, makes the cut. Almost anything goes!
This workspace shows that you don’t have to throw down big bucks to incorporate this trend into your home. You can easily frame large swatches of your favorite textiles to get the look.
How could I complete this ideabook without this room? Prints galore in all shapes, sizes and colors come together to make a splash.
