Wow Ohio Organic thats a lot of money for a cucumber:) I am looking for the wholesale price though since I will have to keep my fulltime off the farm job in order to repay my disaster loans. It used to be that New York State Ag and Markets had a wholesale price guide available for us Marketers but they discontinued it a few years ago. Too bad it was very helpful in determining fair prices for the farmers. I will check into Deva cucumber since so many of you mentioned it. I am also going to add a couple more rows of Cantalopes . I think I will try Twilleys Moneylope and my old favorite Fastbreak. Last time I grew Fastbreak I got 500 melons in about 75 foot of row and believe it or not it flowered twice so I had two crops here in New YOrk State.I was picking melons way into late September. You are assuming the problem is with the variety rather than with the growing conditions you provide or your planting schedule. Marketmore is well known as a very tolerant variety, adaptable to a wide range of weather conditions. Even for those of us with much hotter summers than you indicate it normally does well. Here 90 degrees is considered cool when our normal temps are weeks over 100 yet it is a consistently high producer for me. Just think how bad folks in south Georgia and Texas have it. But as with any variety it has a basic set of conditions that must be met by the grower - proper planting times, fertile soil well-draining soil, good nutrient levels, consistent soil-moisture levels are especially important, and basic pest and disease control. So you may want to re-evaluate your methods as well as the variety you choose. That said, staged planting is recommended as jnfarm mentioned. So are you growing in ground or in containers? What is your watering regimen? What nutrients do you provide? When do you plant out and do you direct seed or try to use transplants? Perhaps you need to be planting earlier? Heat tolerant varieties beside Marketmore are Eureka, Thunder, Little Leaf, Olympic. Dave

Have you considered 'Pia'? This is a small plant the blooms well. I had one customer comment last year that her 'Pia' was the only hydrangea blooming in her garden. The picture with the pink flowers is actually a group of 6 cutting. Even as a cutting 'Pia' had flowers. The other picture is of one plant. Notice the size and quantity of flowers to leaves. Most hydrangea planted in our gardens eventually turn blue because of the ph. Our Hydrangeas that are growing in potting soils are usually pink. After they are transplanted directly into the ground we see a change in color. This is why this plant has blue, pink, and purple flowers.

Yes I have reliant and red haven. They both get less than 5 hours sun a day. Your 7 hours should be enough. The trick is to have your trees wide space so that they get sun from all direction where it is available and to get an early ripening variety. The earliest peaches will come in during the mulberries and cherries so the animals will leave your peaches alone. Anything coming in past July will be impossible for you to get the sun or keep the animals off. Grow from seed. They will produce on the 3 year. Grafted trees have to many rootstock problem. Give your tree a 15 foot radius of its own. peach trees need to be 30 feet apart with only 7 hours sun. Solar angle gets to low after august 1st to support peach ripening and you would be best to have the peaches ripe and gone by July 21st. One month past solstice. You will have 3 things to worry about.
