Specifically, the Purple Passion flower vines sold in HD and Lowes where I used to live were the wild native "Maypop" variety. The Flower is beautiful and smells just like Purple sweet tarts. They are extremely hardy... Grow like mad. None of the ones I have bought out of HD and Lowes have ever fruited -- even though I even tried hand pollinating them... and I have owned a bunch of them. I talked to some fellows at local Nurseries that sold cultivated fruiting varieties of passion fruit vines -- they said there were Male and Female plants... and the showy HD Plants were Males (No wonder I couldn't get fruit...) Female fruiting plants are considerably more expensive and available only in Nurseries... I have tried eating the wild "Maypops" out of ditches on the side of the road... Unimpressed... Nothing special to say about them... They have none of the wonderful taste of a Cultivated Passion Fruit... To sum up my personal experience: "Homestore" passion vines are great if you want hardy vines that produce lots of Flowers and no Fruit. If you want Fruit, get cultivated Fruiting varieties out of proper Nurseries... YMMV. John

If you get seeds, they do quite well. The ones I have in the greenhouse are growing like crazy, but will probably keep inside till August or September. I had a massive Edulus plant that I lost after 1.5 years. First year, it went up into the neighbor's tree to escape heat, then we had the freeze and I pulled it all down, but I kept it down and the plant cooked to death. The established Frederick that is blooming is in a less hot spot. Pictures as the weird flowers come...

This is my first time posting on this sight but with a BS from NC State in Agricultural Business and a Master Gardener certification, I'm pretty sure I have the knowledge to post a modest comment. I don't know why people have to get so nasty to one another and judgmental about where someone buys their plants. Its just gardening, people! I know this post was a long time ago but I stumbled upon it and thought I'd share. I ordered purple passions from Michigan bulb 6 years ago. I was trying to add to my hydrangea collection. A few didn't make it because of me and a few didn't make it because of Michigan bulb. But Michigan bulb swiftly replaced all that didn't hold up without stress or scrutiny. They are not "regular ole Hydrangea macrophyllas." I have Nikkos, Penny Macs, Oregon Prides, Lady in Reds blah, blah, blah. Purple Passions are distinctive in that the blooms are a deep purple like I have never seen on any other hydrangea. I have them as a woodland border because I live in the coastal south. But my neighbors have them in the hot sun and they look just as lovely. Mine are in well drained soil that is mostly composted pine needles and leaves. I prune them in August after there blooms start looking shotty. You have to water them often at first but once they are established they are care free, easy to propagate and lovely. If you're nervous to put them in the ground because they're scrawny, pot them outside for the fall, and put them in your garage for a dormant winter.

I don't really care about the citrus, if it kills it oh well. I only actually use a few of the lemons a season anyway. I think I could prune the passion fruit back to keep it under control. In my zone it will die to the ground every winter as well. I am not sure how o root them yet. I have heard that they are easy, but I need to red about it more. For figs that I would be willing to trade I have: LSU Gold, Panachee, Barnisotte, Col De dam, Negronne, and Celeste.
