Got our first egg --- now what?

We just got the first egg from a New Hampshire Red that is 16 weeks old. I know that is early but now will I get another egg tomorrow?

She was sending out loud distress signels the day before (I thought she was being attacked) and then did it again the day the egg appeared. She showed me where it was and after I picked it up, she stopped cackling. Unfortunately, it was on the ground. These chickens are free-range and I am hoping they will figure out what the nest boxes are for. I put a golf ball in each one, but we are surrounded by Walnut trees that are now dropping walnuts everywhere.

Golf ball? Walnuts? Eggs???????? How do I get them to know where we want the eggs deposited?
