Thank you for the feedback. That does explain a lot. I've never grown a melon before. The plants are in a large kiddie pool with some tomatoes and eggplant. Hopefully, that is enough for the roots. But the vines are just starting to gain some major length and size so it may be that the plant is not large enough for fruitset yet. The blossoms on the lemon cukes really are difficult to distinguish. I was staring at them for a long time yesterday trying to figure out which were females. But at least the one I pollenated the day before was, it started to grow. I pollenated an armenian cuke yesterday so we will see if it is a pollenation problem. I do see lots of bees buzzing around my garden. I found them in the squash blossoms yesterday doing their job. Ania

We use to grow these each year to provide shade for a brightly lit sunroom. Very prolific but relatively easy to contol and trim. Collect seeds for next year before yanking the plants out in the fall. Grows really fast so can be used as a privacy screen. Nice lemon-green colour. I kind of miss them, makes me nostalgic.

Hi, I hope you all don't mind me jumping in with another cucumber question. This is my first time growing cucumbers and I thought that they would climb a tomato cage and grow up. But, this doesn't seem to be the case; the plants tend to sprawl across the ground. I planted them fairly close to other plants (there are some peppers on one side of the cukes and spinach on the other). The cucumbers are sending out long tendrils that try to grab anything it can reach. I have been removing them from the pepper plants when they try to take hold, and I have been letting them grab the spinach leaves, because it is my understanding that the spinach doesn't like our hot Florida weather, and I figure the spinach will have to be eventually cleared before summer (is that right?). So far the spinach is great! So, any suggestions on containing the cucumber plants? Should I just let them grow toward the spinach area in anticipation of that part being eventually clear? Is it harmful to the plant to break tendrils?

The soil looks like 'nursery' bought 'premium' garden mix the plants are growing in. I've always found that needs a goodly dose of compost to make it viable, especially for fruit/vegie production. It also contains no clay so it doesn't hold moisture, I now always add a good supply of (commercial) water retaining granules when laying nursery 'premium garden mix'. I'd also check under the leaves to see if you can spot anything that's attacking them, however, that wilting leaf in the picture could suggest dryness or, perhaps less likely, a fungal problem.
