Please Help Me Save My Dying Avocado Tree!
Comments (7)I have to disagree with jean001 a little. New potting soil (looks like yours has some perlite as well) will not compact and/or dry out such that it pulls away from the edge of the pot, and water runs right through without wetting it. Given the size of your pot, and the amount you're watering, I'd say it's been too wet. Avocados like well-drained soil, on the slightly dry side. A new tree, with few roots to absorb and transpire water, doesn't require much. As it grows and water needs increase, it can use more, but easy does it. As jean001 suggested, growing in a pot is MUCH different than in the ground. Care must be taken to maintain the correct soil moisture. There are perhaps a few avocado varieties that will produce in a container, but it would have to be a very large container. Also, you'll get few, if any, fruits, without cross-pollination. If you maintain a drier pot, and keep an eye on moisture levels further down in the mix before watering, it's possible your tree will come back. The way it's looking at the moment, I'd give it about a 30-40% chance. Also, small avocados are prone to sunburn -- don't keep it in direct sun all day. Shade it slightly, and/or paint the trunk. -Bruce...See More!! Please help me save my sod!
Comments (4)For the first couple weeks i tried my best to water twice a day for about an hour each time. For the past month or so, i've not watered anything with the sprinkler (just manually some areas around the edges / house), because we've had so much long / deep rain that i didn't want to over water....See MorePlease Help Me save my Bromeliad!
Comments (5)No it's not :( when I first got it the leaves progressed up from the bottom to from a bright red flower. As I said, all the leaves fell off from lack of care, and when it started producing fresh, new leaves, it was at the top. All the original leaves browned and fell or I trimmed them off. I just don't know what to do! I have looked everywhere for what to do. All advice is GREATLY appreciated!...See MoreSaving my Lawn with a fresh start (grass advice)
Comments (10)Sounds like Turf Type Tall Fescue is the way to go, I'm not sure that's enough sun for Kentucky Bluegrass. But seeding time is not until Fall. In the meanwhile, you may want to read up on NTEP tests for your area and check out seedsuperstore.com, see which one of the cultivars does best in NJ. Getting good seed makes a huge difference in the end result, though it costs more upfront. When you do seed, the seed will need to be watered 5-6 times a day 5-10 minutes at a time for the first 6-7 days, so unless you have an irrigation system make plans for that. Get a soil test done - people around here recommend Logan Labs - and see if there's any deficiencies that you can address in the meanwhile. Once it's time to seed all you will need is seed - ~8 pounds/1000 square feet, seed to soil contact, a bag of starter fertilizer and water to keep the seed moist....See MoreLisa_H OK
