OMG. DO you know the variety name. your seeds are probably going to fail. to make eggplant seeds you MUST allow the eggplant to remain on the plant for a very long time after ready to eat. well maybe you can leave it indoors on a counter. It is most important that the seeds remain in the eggplant as long as possible. when eggplant is made for seeds they leave the eggplant on the plant until it goes at least brown and changes to where it can no longer be eatten. Those eggplant look super good and I would love to grow them. Hope you know the variety name. hope I can find them. hope you get some good seeds for next year. best would have been probably to leave one plant with some eggs on them until as late as possible to harvest. hopefully leaving in the kitchen for a month or more will help. here is a short quote off the seed savers exchange website. Seed Saving: Isolate 1/4 mile from other eggplants to prevent crossing. Let the fruits grow far past maturity, so that the seeds can be removed from the soft flesh. Most seeds are brown and are usually located at the bottom of the fruit. below is the story with pictures of someone who failed because he did not let them go long enough. interesting read and pictures on saving eggplant seeds. they germinated when new but not in the spring. they died because they were not ripe enough. those are great eggplant seed do you remember where they came from. Thanks for the responses...Not really worth a road trip for a few pepper plants...these aren't anything exotic. I had hoped there might be a few Clevelanders who'd want 'em. I looked into shipping 'em and legally I'd need a permit...though I doubt the state would really care about a few homegrown peppers. I'm taking some to my Physical therapy place, they have SW facing windows. Once the wx gets warm, someone can take 'em home to plant. I also have a friend who can take some. --Don

OK , i know. a feeble attempt. compared to the others, this is anorexic, but... it has an excuse... It is planted in the ground, and temps hit 27F the other night. all my other peppers look pretty bad a few died, like they do every winter. This one is still flowering and growing fruit does anyone know what this is ? Serrano maybe ? ive been looking for a pepper i can over-winter by just leaving in the ground and adding a bit of mulch... as you can probably tell, im not a pro - pepper grower i grow more tropical fruits etc... i do like having my peppers every year though

Nicole, Raddishes are a must. They come up in only 1 week. Plant a short row every week and you will have some throughout the season. When the first short row is done you can replant that row. When I use to garden, I only did small amounts of each variety. I bought seed pkts and used the same pkts for several years. They were stored in the house, so they didn't freeze. For green beans I highly-recomend planting pole beans. Buy a 2"X2" by 8 foot pole to let them climb on. Have DH pound it into the ground about 2 1/2 to 3 feet. Before putting it into the ground, have the kids pound medium nails into one side about every 8 to 10 inches. This keeps the beans from slipping down the pole. When it is in the ground, you can plant 4 - 5 beans around the pole about 4" from the pole. This way your beans take very little space. I like Kentucky Wonder pole beans, and you will get enough for your whole family to enjoy those yummy fresh picked beans till frost. When choosing tomatoe plants look at the tags and choose the smaller size tomatoes because they will be ready to pick sooner. I really prefer cherry tomatoes. Be sure you put some flowers in there too. Marigolds around the outside MIGHT keep out rabbits and they are a pretty border. Mark each place with the name of the seed planted so the kids can learn to recognize the right plants from the weeds. Don't forget to weed, if you don't let them get out of control you will really enjoy the garden. Have fun and I hope we get to see pictures.
