Container Mango Tree - size of pot/soil type
Comments (19)There is potential for zinc toxicity if you plant in galvanized pots ....... especially if soil/water pH are on the acidic side. There is plenty of potential for you to have complete control over your plants ht and width, but controlling its mass requires a little more finesse. IOW, your trunk is going to get thicker and thicker over time. You'll need to learn how to maintain your plants root system, because vitality, growth rate, and branch extension are all negatively affected by root congestion. At the approximate point where root congestion progresses to the stage where the entire root/soil mass can be lifted from the pot intact, limitations related to said congestion start affecting the plant and become progressively more limiting until there isn't much left of the plant. Usually, the plant succumbs to insect infestation or diseases as congestion worsens. BTW - potting up (as opposed to repotting, which includes root pruning) is not a cure for root congestion. It temporarily/partially leaves some of the associated limitations, but ensures those limitations will ALWAYS be in play until such time that you or someone familiar with root work actually gets their hands in the root mass and corrects the congestion. Comments (37)Yes Puglvr, I understand anyone who shy's away from a Kent mango tree,..I expect mine to top out around 40 + feet when it is fully grown,..maybe 20 yrs from now. But speaking of huge mango trees, the Valencia Pride will be even TALLER than the Kent. A very fast grower, one of the reasons it does so well in places with fairly cold winters ( like here ). Grows so fast it adds a layer of outer bark faster than most trees, helping it survive those few 33 - 36 deg nights, just needs the initial 3 or so winters to be moderate. Don't even want to talk about the very rare 30 deg ones !!! lol But thats why I have my C 9 Christmas tree lights strung thru all the trees till March 1st. An ounce of prevention.......See Morepotted malika mango tree
Comments (9)Yep, it's true my name is Samuel Forest for real.... In my family tree our name were De forest and change to Forest...maybye a day it will go to Foret because I am french... Now, return to the mango tree...If I want to put an humidifier is because in winter we need to heat the house and it decrease alot the humidity, It's why I taught it will go ,but I'll try without it first as you say. So today I went to my local nursery , I asked for the girl to help to find the gritty mix ingredients that I found on the net...She said that I was hard to find these ingredients and really rare.:(So, she gave me some gypsum granulated and two fafard potting mixes one cactus mix that contains brown peat, sphagnum peat moss, san, calcined clay, composted manure and limestone. The other potting mix is a orchid potting mix that contains werstern bark mini-nuggets,coconut husk chunks and limestone. The girl told me that if I mix these it will be perfect ,but I want to ask you first if it will be good otherwise I'll find the gritty mix ingredients in a other garden center... And yes, sure I'll keep posting how does it goes mangodog.I'll maybye post other fruit trees because I have a fig tree (don't now the kind ,But it's making figs for the first time that are really good), a banana plant (a dwarf musa green) and a passion fruit vine. Thanks again for your anwsers espiecially mangodog. Sam...See MoreWhat is wrong with my potted mango tree?
