So today I added a bucket of the smelly gunk that I could scoop out of the pond, some leaves, and kitchen scraps. Will get more pond gunk this weekend if it warms up some. It was a little chilly out there tonight, to be mucking around in the pond. Could turn my bins today, mostly thawed. Emptied finished compost from the smaller pile into the almost finished compost in the other bin. Was very Happy and oh so pleased with my pile, my bins are about 3'square and one is now full of lovely 90% usuable compost, plus one very big fat mouse. Probably should have added her to the pile but couldn't do it. No where near what others can produce here but Im still pleased :-)Frogged

lots and lots of weeds. seeds and all. mostly plantains. also over grown cosmos, poppy. annual painted daisy shasta daisy flops etc... pretty much 5 wheel barrels full of greens and a few shovel fulls of pine chips. i'm just piling it up till fall. stinks to high heck. but come fall it will be easy to mix in some(tons) of leaves. no worries on the stench.it's about 20 or so yards from the house. my closest neighbor is 2 football feilds away and owns horses. snicker... i tell DH is the horses. this is my 3rd or 4th batch this year and since i ran out of hoarded leaves i decided to cold compost for a while. pile it up and let it stink.i mean rot i mean compost. lol.

It's canning season. I've been throwing the peach pits under the pine trees, but the peach skins go into the compost pile. Tomato skins and seeds. I have been pouring the left-over liquids from canning, cooking, anything that has juice, or sugar water, or other dissolved organic by-products, onto both the compost pile and onto the fallow garden beds. (Drink up, my hearty microherd.) At this time of the year, the recycled beer either goes onto the compost pile or straight onto the lawn. - Awaiting the leaves. This year, some of the leaves are going straight onto the garden beds for mulch. But I have to reserve some leaves (browns) to balance out a compost pile that has become very 'green'-filled over the summer.

I spread about 3/4 of a garbage bin of UCG from a local coffee shop on the lasagna bed. There were over 200 paper coffee filters which I picked up and put in my regular compost bin and a few in my new compost/mulch BOX. Didn't want those filters blowing away in the wind. Besides all those many paper filters my poor deprived compost BIN just gets the same old, same old (salad trimmings, coffee grounds and filter, egg shells, tea bags) every day altho it's getting more tea bags since the cold weather started cause we drink more hot tea. Wish I could scrounge goodies like so many of you but there is sometimes a limit what I'll do for my garden. And our groundhogs and squirrels are way too fast for me to catch. Our bears had left 4 piles on the lawn last week but I told DH to throw it out beyond the house yard fence so they hopefully get the idea to only do their business out there and stay out of MY yard. If he had put it in the compost they might get the idea that's theirs and tough but I have first dibs. I also spread all of my compost/mulch PILE on the garden today which was 4 ATV trailer loads plus a couple of wheelbarrow loads.
