Think I have a volunteer cauliflower in the compost pile

I saw a nice looking little plant in the compost pile. I thought it was strange since I didn't plant anything in there. Usually, I've only had volunteer potatoes, tomatoes and cantaloupe from eyes or seeds.

I gently pulled the plant out of the compost, and it looks like its growing from the core of a cauliflower that I cut up. Is that weird? I'm trying to protect it to see what happens to it.
