10A Container soil for veggie gardening

Hi Folks,

I'm new to the forum. I live in St. Pete Florida but right off Tampa bay; never get frost so I'd consider my location more like 10A. I've had a 5'x 50' box that was very productive for the first three years but has been rather problematic the last two seasons...hopelessly contaminated soil. My wife and I would still like to continue vegetable gardening but want to try container gardening. I've spent quite a few hours researching my containers and hopefully have come up an aesthetically pleasing and functional setup - necessary since I live on a lake in full view of many of my neighbors. Now comes the big question, soil mix. I'm planning 10-12 18 gallon pots with a 3-4 gallon wicking reservoir at the bottom. Previously I've used the local nurseryÂs potting soil since I can get it for $17 a cubic yard, thinking of adding perlite and vermiculite but this subject is so controversial I'd appreciate the input and experiences of anyone in my area with their soil mixes.
