Oh No! The worst thing I've ever done to another Gardenwebber.

This is so embarrassing. Worse than sending a seed packet full of chaff only and no seeds. Worse than sending weed seeds when you think you are sending flowers.

I was just forwarding my husband a spam e-mail I received today so he could look at the headers and modify our spam filters.

I typed the first couple of letters of his name in the address field, saw an address load and hit send. Then I noticed that it wasn't his name and address in the "to" field - it was a newbie Gardenwebber who I sent a private offer for a newbie seed pack.

Oh No!!!

This wasn't just run of the mill spam. This was spam for "male enhancement" and had a before and after mail enhancement photo! I just flashed a total stranger with another total stranger's family jewels!

Of course I sent an immediate apology and explanation. But somewhere out there this morning there's a newbie gardenwebber who's just got a free seeds e-mail followed a very non-garden spam mail with photo!

Ugh, I feel terrible about this. But I think telling you all and having you all laugh at me for a while might help the feeling awful bit pass. Maybe. Ugh.

Lol, ok I feel bad for the gardener but this is so unlike you that it's making me giggle.
I'm sure your explanation will clear things up, just be more careful when sending stuff like that, lol.
Also if I get such an email in the future I will no longer believe any excuses, ;P

Oh jeez, I started off with 2- a phal (12 blossoms!) and paph. I saw them in the orchid bark and thought- Gee whiz! I need to repot these in proper soil! So I repotted them in miracle gro potting soil. And put the phal in direct sun on a 90 deg. day. Stupid! It got sunburn and started dying immediately. I tried so hard to save it...spent 2 weeks just dragging its death out. I took it to the nursery- I didn't know diddly about orchids (obviously), potted it in the bark again, cut off the sunburned leaves, doused it with physan (it now had root rot, and I didn't even cut off the bad roots). The blossoms dropped immediately as well. Then I cut the spike, and cut more leaves because the infection was spreading. So then I was left with a pathetic looking plant, half spike and only 2 leaves. Then the crown starting to rot. I threw it out soon thereafter. It just got too depressing watching it die. I really wanted to save it- it was a get well present from my mother. It's amazing what we will do for these plants. Miraculously, the paph survived. Definitely learned a few lessons here! BTW- I really enjoyed some of these stories. I've only been at this 6 months, and I still feel rather thickheaded at times.

Minimac, the grower was saying NOT to use anything as a preventative, but to do exactly what you did: Isolate instead. Now, you only have two pots to deal with instead of your whole collection. He was saying that if you use something like Marathon all the time when it is not needed, the bugs (or pathogens) more quickly become immune to it and than it doesn't work anymore. Better, according to him, to battle them ONLY when you get them. If it were my, I'd try DE first, but that's just because of asthma and other lung problems, so I choose to always try a non-chemical approach first. Not sure what I'd do next...if I loved it and used chemicals, I'd try them next. If I loved and and didn't use them, I'd try topping it and just make sure I took no soil with me. I'd keep it isolated, too. I've heard of people using Marathon and saying it works well, so if you have it, that might be a good thing to do. Here is a link that might be useful: Dcotor Optimara link

My beloved mutt Hippo has been a comedian (and trouble) from day one... She is food crazy and has had some harrowing experiences because of her appetite. Once she ate an entire box of dry cookie dough. Her stomach bloated up, she had diarrhea, she vomited and was miserable for about 8 hours. Once in the middle of the night she threw up... a plastic bag! I have no idea what was in the bag, or how/when she ate it, thank god she threw it up. When I had my first child she was my night companion. Anytime the baby would cry, she would run into my DD's room and wait patiently for me to come in, like "Mom, the baby is crying!" and she would stay up with me through the night feedings. She also took to licking the top of my DD's bald baby head. My relatives all thought it was gross, I thought it was adorable. When I leave the house she goes on my bed, rearranges the pillows and takes a nap. The second I come home, she jumps down and acts like she was never up there... At age 10, she loves going with my DD up into her tree house (there are little stairs) and then she will slide down the slide, just like a kid. Hippo and DD are best friends and she was the greatest "practice kid" ever.

Did anyone see the episode a few years ago in California's wine country? This spoiled, dry, unsmiling couple toured three gorgeous homes, large homes that anyone would consider to be dream homes. The man walked into one of the kitchens, a huge affair with cherry cabinets, granite counters, stainless, etc., and pronounced it very low end. My DH and I were incredulous. If that was low end, what does he consider high end? Titanium appliances? Gold-plated fixtures? Diamond-encrusted cabinets? Sheesh! Also, I don't understand why people need these huge homes. 5000 sq. ft. might seem impressive, but don't you get lost in that? How do you keep it clean? How do you afford the maintenance. Repainting and reroofing a 50000 sq. ft. home is going to be much more costly than a 1500 sq. ft job. Do you really need a separate exercise room, a separate wine room, a separate play room, a separate theater? Don't even get me started on the spoiled 20-somethings who are buying their first home for $500,000 OR MORE and sneer that a perfectly serviceable kitchen or bathroom is a "gut job." My favorite HHI was the one in Slovenia where bees had built a hive in the house (or was it bats?) also the one in Buckinghamshire, England, with the thatched roof.

I'm so glad you felt free to share this story with us, Lynda! You had me laughing harder than I have in years! When I thought I couldn't laugh any harder, I read your signature! LOL!!!!!!!!!

But, seriously, Lynda, I think we've all accidentally sent an embarassing email before and had it come back to bite us. You apologized, and I'm sure the member really understands. Now, we can all look back on this great story and just giggle every now and then. That's what I love about humor. It's rarely funny when it's happening to you at that moment, but later, it really can bring a good chuckle.

Been there, done that too!! I'm not sure what I accidently sent to one of my managers was as good as what you sent, but was embarassing at the moment. We both, as well as some of our co-workers, laugh about it now.

I once sent my Daughter a picture of myself that was meant for my Fiancee..I won't say what the pic was but you can imagine! Anyway, her Husband checked her messages before she did & he said to her "Wow, you & your Mom have a weird relationship"...lol..we all just laughed it off but i am sure it will never be forgotten! So I can feel your embarassment totally!
