Do I need to "induce" dormancy on my lovage plant?

Hi all, I have a lovage plant in a container on my San Francisco balcony and am a little worried because I've read online that it requires a period of dormancy in the winter in order to be its healthiest. It doesn't exactly get cold here in the winter, so I'm wondering if I need to induce this by cutting it down, sticking it in the fridge (kidding, kind of), or something else? Or can I just let it go on its merry way?
Thank you! This is the first plant I've reared from hand so I'm very attached :)
