Steve, It looks to me like you could get three more fixtures in there, by hanging them side-by-side and touching. Then you could turn your trays the other way and have four standard 11" x 22" seed starting trays where you now have only one, and the four fixtures would provide light above all of your seedlings. I agree with Oppalm. You don't need the heating mat for marigolds. Some things do need bottom heat, like triploid seedless watermelons for instance. Be sure to remove the plastic cover when you first see the seedlings emerge. Then provide a little artificial breeze for your seedlings with a small electric fan. They need the "exercise" to stay stocky with strong stems. How much did the GE "Sunshine 40" bulbs cost? MM

lehua13 given your description I think we can rule out heat stress. As far as water stress goes a plant can be stressed by either to much or too little water. The soil should be slightly damp but not soaking wet. Here are a couple of things that may help..... You have leaf miners. If there are not to many of them then just pluck off the affected leaves. The ones with squiggly lines. Put them in a zip lock bag and dispose of them. Another alternative is pesticides. If you prefer organic you can try 1 table spoon of Neem Oil per Gallon of water. Add a few drops of soap to the mixture for a wetting agent. Spray the whole plant along with the tops and bottoms of the leaves. Repeat every 4-6 days as needed. The time to spray would be in the late afternoon. If you do not have a preference for organic pesticides there are better none organic alternatives. If the container is not protected from the sun in some way it should be. Think about how hot a bottle of water gets sitting in the sun. Way to hot for plants, right? If the reservoir does not have a hole in the side to let excess water out then the proper thing to do its to drill one. Stop flushing. Its stressful to the plant. Its something thats done as a last resort to compensate for a massive over fertilization. Its meant to get something out of the soil. Not to put fertilizers in it. Remove any dead leaves. They are a perfect place for molds and fungus to start growing and thats a bad thing.

Thank you all for the advice. IÂve been thinking about what everyone said. I have to admit that the last couple of days IÂve gone through a roller coaster of emotions. I realized that in 13 years only one person in the family has ever shared something from their backyard with us. DonÂt get me wrong, the family is very kind in many other ways but maybe they just donÂt realize what goes into growing your own vegetables. DH and I have decided to be honest. This year is a bit different. We got started late, grew fewer plants, and got hit with disease early, so I donÂt even know what kind of crop we will get. So we will share but only what we can. Our little ones come first; after all they are working very hard in the garden this year! DH built the raised beds and did the entire heavy moving etc, I tend to the plants - so the garden belongs to all of us. As a family we share, we have always shared, that is us. I realized that in all the years that we have always been the ones that give, and I think that will always stay the same. I want to share and I want my children to learn that too. ItÂs not just the family; we try to give to others too. In the past I have offered to teach the family how to plant, there was even a year that my little ones started so many tomato seeds that we had 150 plants and we offered them to every person we knew. But I finally realize that not everyone wants to be a gardner :o I posted the question because I knew that the people in the forums would understand, because you all know what it takes and how much work it can be sometimes. You also know how rewarding it is to share growing with the little ones, picking the ripe veges, and giving to others. I wanted to hear that it was okay to feel the way that I was feeling. How can I expect them to understand, when they have never had a garden of their own? This year theyÂll get fewer tomatoes and they will also get to hear about all the work and problems and diseases encounteredÂ.. in detail! Just kidding! About the only reasonable explanation that I can think of at the moment is that a "sucker", that is, a sprout from the base of the plant actually coming from the rootstock-these are grafted plants-grew up into the main body of the tree without your noticing, has matured enough to produce blossoms, and is now doing so, this variety of cherry not being the same as the top portion. Capiche? Really no other way that I can think of for this to happen. And it's not April first yet. Me or somebody else here can elaborate on that explanation if you wish. +oM
