Overwintering chinese elms in pots

Would be very grateful for some advice here. I have 2 Chinese elms (ulmus parvifolia) in plastic pots that are 20 inches in diameter and 17 inches deep. The tree branches extend several feet over the edges of the pots.

I dug them out of the garden this spring because I knew we would be moving. Unfortunately we are moving in January! They survived the last 2 winters in my garden without problem and have flourished this year in the pots. If I make sure they don't completely dry out would they survive the winter in an unheated shed with little or no light? The shed faces north and the interior temperature can get very low. Or would they stand a better chance outside in a sheltered spot?

thanks!
