Beware: Do not get tape on your stamps

Had a bubble envelope returned today. I taped the end and did not realize I got tape on the postage stamps. The note said I had damaged the stamps by taping them.

I had my husband drop this one off at the outside box at the post office on Sunday when he left town for work because my post office is one that overcharges on postage...they do not believe any bubble envelope can go for 80cents. I put 3 stamps on it to be safe...note on the envelope says I owe $1.17 in postage, it has one packet of seeds in it.

I removed the tape from the stamp area and put 3 more stamps on it so I can mail from my mailbox since my husband is still out of town. Will see if it is returned again.

my post office is one that overcharges on postage...they do not believe any bubble envelope can go for 80cents.

Well, actually the rate is 83 cents for a bubble envy qualifying for the Large Envelope rate.

Why not drop the Postmaster General himself an email telling of this?

I suggest you mention that this a nationwide problem.
Roughly up to 50% of the Post Offices across the country have been overcharging for over a year now. They are charging parcel rate for all padded mailers

Tell him that it has gone on entirely too long, and the nationwide problem needs addressed....right down to each and every window clerk. Tell him that is has been discovered numerous times that often the Postmaster/Mistress was not even aware of the correct charge. There is proof of that in several threads.

Tape UNDER stamps is fine to promote easy peeling, but just one bit OVER the stamps and they reject it. It has happened to me as well.

Knew that only after my stupid (that is a kind word for her) mail lady banged on my door last year and told me to stop reusing stamps (which I wasnt, they were new, but the edge of them had some tape on them where I had taped the end of the envelope shut and some tape was on the stamps. (this isnt why I dont like that mail lady, she had also informed me that she would no longer pick up bubble envelopes from my house as she didnt want to clutter her maibag with them, she also was throwing my mail in my flowerbed instead of putting it in my box and was just really crappy to me all the time. I called the postmaster twice to tattle on her and finally told him I was going to slap the snot out of her if she darkened my doorway ever again. She was put on a different route for her own protection and my sanity. The new mailman was a sweetie and he picked up all of my mail and took care of things for me. I called the postmaster again to tell him that the new guy was a sweetheart and doing a wonderful job. Apparently a lot of people had problems with the old mail lady and I nearly got a parade in my honor for getting her off our route. lol. The clear tape to cover the envy is great and they do last longer.

No duct tape for this girl. I use just 1 twist tie in the front to keep the top and bottom half closed. I also offset the holes just slightly so that there is a gap between the top and bottom. So when things start to dry out (usually 1st week of May here) I can use the hose sprayer and gently spray the side of the containers and the water runs in just fine. I also recycle my containers from year to year. I store them in the attic of the shed in black bags. That means that the next year I usually have at least 3/4s of my containers ready to go when it's time to ws. Sometimes the twist ties must be replaced but that's it. I found this method on this forum the year I started wsing and it has worked great ever since. Unfortunately, the post (with pics) has since disappeared.

I am on the same page as everyone else. I can understand the confusion at first when you are are looking at the website. My advice to a newbie is to order the beginner kit from dripworks and just spend a few hours in the field figuring it out. Then order more of what you need. Delivery times is pretty short if ordering "fittings". I like using driptape barbs that have the shut off valve. Once you have all the bits and pieces you will reuse them for years to come. 1 tip I figured out myself when I first started with drip is I do everything with the water running. yes I get wet but I see right away if there is a problem. I will reuse tape with in the season ie when replanting a bed from broccoli to late beets. But I do not save tape from year to year. Perhaps I'll rethink this in the future. Also 1/2" mainline is also called orchard tubing. I order my mainline and drip from nolt's midwest produce supply and I order all the "bits" from dripworks. I'd estimate that a first time buyer would spend less than $300 for mainline drip and "all the bits" and mainline and drip rolls would last for at least 2-4 years? Good luck once you buy into drip you'll wonder why you were so afraid of it in the first place. Kristi

dvarnell, what kind of painter's tape did you use? Do you know the number on the tape. A decorative painter's tape with low tack and something I use on a regular basis is 3m-2080. Some of the other sizes will or can leave a residue of break down on your walls. I don't or haven't ever had a problem out of the one I use. So , is it really tacky, sticky residue, or is it the acutal tape itself on the wall? JMHO, I definitely would not use the magic eraser. You will sure mess up your great work. It really doesn't get stuck in the paint, unless some things like maybe the roller edges or edgers, what ever was used may have been used with a little heavier pressure, more distributed right near the edge lines of the tape, air blowing or uneven temperatures directly related to the areas you are talking about. So , first of all, is it a sticky like tacky feel on the wall, or is it still some tape on the wall?

Any time a stamp has any markings on it, or tape, it's assumed that the stamp has been previously used. And yes, unfortunately, some people do put tape on their unused stamps by mistake, but more often than you'd believe, we catch people re-using the postage, which is a HUGE no-no. So, whenever we find suspect postage, we return the package so the sender can try again.
Another thing we find a lot of is people will order something, open it, then try to return it without paying any postage. Once a package is opened, it becomes the responsibility of the person opening it up to pay for the return postage. If you receive something you don't want, simply don't open it up, mark it Return To Sender, and whoever sent it to you will then be responsible for paying the return postage.
If you ever have any questions about this, or anything else, all it takes is a question or two for your local mailman. We're simply trying to help you receive and send your mail in a timely, efficient manner.
No scams, we don't have time for them. And let's face it, trying to get you to pay for an extra unneeded stamp or two simply isn't worth losing our paycheck. We don't make the big bucks, but we're comfortable, and in one of the most secure jobs in existence right now. It just isn't worth it.

ya ya ya, LOL i'm happy with our mail people. they are in the "LOOP" LOL but of course i'm always making sure of it too!! LOL ok, FIRST tape, THEN put the stamps on, make sure no little hands don't put any stamps on befor you tape, LOL uhhh that's my talla, she does that sometimes, so i'm peeling stamp
s off. LOL off the wall, off the boxes she thinks needs to go, (that havenothing in them) even off the door. ahhhhhhh!!!! so now i hide them things!! LOL
