What a fantastic idea! I'm sure there are neighborhood associations who would frown on the idea, but it makes sense even for gardeners who aren't physically challenged. Keeping rabbits out is a huge plus. Also, these would warm up quickly in spring, so it could extend the growing season for folks in colder climates. As to liability, it seems that if you never notify your neighbor about their dangerous situation, they will get away free if something bad happens. But if they are on notice but choose to do nothing, they may well be responsible legally. There is a difference between a healthy tree that you dislike, or a dying/dead tree or limb a normal person/arborist can see it causes possible damage. SO if you have doubt, send written notice, put it on paper trail. Don't beat yourself up to bad these don't last too long. They're two cactuses grafted together. The top can't live without the bottom due to lack of chlorophyll. The bottom can last without the top though. I would just throw away the two that are rotten. Unless you want to graft to another cactus, but wouldn't waste your time. These are easy to find. The one that's still kickin needs the soil needs to be amended. Your mix looks very organic which is never good for succulents long term. So try to get your paws on some perlite or pumice. I'm assuming living in beautiful Vermont pumice will be hard to find. So perlite will do fine. A mixture of half rinsed strained perlite combined with half cactus mix. When repotting get rid of all the old soil off the roots, and no water for a week after repotting. I would water as soon as the mix dries out. The bottom is a Hylocereus so these are more of a tropical type cactus. They can and like a little more moisture than other cactus that come from dry deserts. Don't confuse this with them wanting to be in a soggy mess. I don't mean this to offend, but the two above probably died from being in a soggy mess;). Think more along the lines of keeping them in a fast draining mix. Like the 50/50 mix I gave. So the roots can be washed with water a little more, but drains at the same time;). HU, you are probably not aware that cement backer board like Durock is not waterproof. I know that I did not know this before reading this forum. You have to put waterproofing all the way up the walls using even Durock. I bet you also did not know that grout is not waterproof. Grout, as in what goes between the tiles in the shower! This is why even walls must be waterproofed. When you go to rebuild the shower, I would like to suggest something. A lot of people get condensation above the shower, on the walls. When the shower tile ends at 6 ft or 7ft, there are usually painted walls above the shower. I have a pet peeve about this because every shower I have had that had the walls end before the ceiling had molding on that paint where it met the tile. I know that if your exhaust fan is good, this is not supposed to happen, but I just never get used to turning on the fan (and in winter, using it makes the bathroom cold). I was probably 30 before I had a house with an exhaust fan. I solved this problem in my remodel by getting an exhaust fan from Panasonic that senses the humidity and turns on. So consider getting a less expensive tile that you can afford to take to the ceiling. It is just one more place that you don't have to clean in the long run!
